I heard they got their name from either something in their hometown or 311 being a police code for drug possession or something like that...
Editted to add from 311 website: 6. How did the name "311" come about for the band? mshollan@indiana.edu, Cory328, Limpy311, rwalsh@umich.edu (Ryan P. Walsh) 311 is an Omaha police code for indecent exposure. One rainy day, P-Nut and some friends went skinny dipping in a public pool. They were apprehended by police. One of P-Nut's friends (Jim Watson) was arrested, cuffed (naked) and taken home to his parents. He was issued a citation for a code 311 (indecent exposure). We thought this was funny, so we took it as our band name. After the humor of the name wore off - we still kept it because we liked that it was just abstract and that it did not define us in anyway. The name did not describe our sound or our politics, it just let the music speak for itself. Since most interviewers always ask us "What does 311 mean?", we have come up with lots of different answers over the years. Some include.... Nick - "five friends making music", Tim - "a number dictated to me by a higher intelligence", P-Nut - "knowing a little numerology and studying a little magic, which I do; in some factions, three is man and 11 is magic. So 311 is like male magic." http://www.311music.com/htmlsite/qanda/index.html |

haha, that's funny...I've always heard that some of those are true whenever this subject has come up before. My bad!!!:(

I heard about the Little Mermaid video cover having a penis in the castle. Then they changed the cover of the Video. I'm not sure if it was done by accident or if someone thought it might be funny to see if anyone would really noticed it.

University of Kentucky's mascot the Wildcat was designed with a penis as it's tongue! They changed it a few years ago
also, I've always heard that the scene in Wizard of Oz is a sand bag that fell and swung, but it wasn't worth it to them to reedit the film because they didn't notice it until after which seems likely to me because if it's true they would have known that it would be on film. also in 3 men and a baby, supposedly there is a shotgun that appears in one of the corners, as well as an unknown little child, or something. |
The shotgun and the little boy are indeed in 3 Men and a Baby. I remember being MUCH younger and watching it on video at a slumber party and playing that part in slow motion to see it. It freaked us out at the time...lol :p

I remember hearing about the 3 Men and a Baby thing when I was about 11. Some kid brought the tape to school and we watched it in PE when it was raining and I thought I saw it. I was so freaked out.
Then my mom explained that more than likely the movie was filmed on a soundstage in LA, not an actual apartment. That calmed me down a LOT. I realized it was more than likely not true and I was just seeing what I thought I should see. Yes, there really IS a penis on the cover of the Little Mermaid. Its plain as day on the cover, if you know which spire to look at. Animators get bored, they want to leave their own mark on the project, which is how stuff like that happens. There's lots of hidden stuff in Disney. Check out www.hiddenmickeys.org to find out about all the hidden mickey mouse shapes in Disney World. The thing in Aladdin - I played that part of the tape over and over - if you know that you're supposed to hear 'good teenagers take off their clothes' you can sort of hear it. But its a big stretch. |

I heard that the Lion King sex thing really was the Letters S F X because that is the name of the animating company disney contracted to make the film.

If you look very close in 3 men and the little lady, you can see that the "little boy" is actually a cardboard cut out of Ted Danson. You can see the cut out all through the movie.
|
in the Wizard of Oz you can actually see something hanging if you play the video in ulta slow motion, fram by frame (thats if you have a really good vcr, or even better, a DVD player!!). We did it in physics class a few years ago, thank goodness for cool teachers and time to waste...:D

I have that cover. I never noticed it before I was told years later (I was a little kid! I didn't know!) It's QUITE the topic of conversation at school when they see it sitting on my videoshelf. :) |
