There's a week in October where the floodgates are opened and courtship takes place (I don't remember if it's the week right before Homecoming or if it's two weeks before) and it's a total circus. All the fraternities put up huge light displays on their lawns of the letters of the sororities they want...they come to the houses at dinner to bring dessert, they drop by later at night to bring treats for the girls who live in the house, they sing, they give all the girls roses, they decorate the sororities' lawns with banners and flags and even balloon displays, etc. etc. I heard one of the fraternities was going to rent limousines for the girls. My favorite was when one of the fraternities had masseuses come to our house before dinner. Then we all vote on who to be paired up with during Chapter. My house was split last year. |
At my college that my husband graduated from they have 11 fraternities and 5 sororities between two different sections. For those of you who don't know, Kettering University (formerly GMI) is a co-op school where you work for three months then go to school for three months. The number of girls is very low. I think last years incoming freshmen class only had 24!!

UBC
9 fraternities 7 sororities Things seem to be fairly balanced |
At Purdue we have 40 fraternities and 22 sororities. We also have something called Cooperative Housing. We have "butterups" to be paired with other houses for football season and Grand Prix week. It's common for a lot of fraternities not to get paired with someone. Butterups are really fun. There are serenades, massages, bedtime stories, chalking, rides to and from class, flowers, ect.
It can get pretty competitive, especially if two houses are pursuing one house pretty hardcore. Of course, it's all in good fun! :) |
That courtship and butter-ups sounds like so much fun! I wish we would have had that.
For some reason I can't think today, but it seems to me we had 7 fraternities and 4 sororities at Whitewater. I'm probably wrong, though :) |
When I was in school UCSD had about 10 IFC and 8 NPC. There was also 2 Asian fraternities and 2 Asian soroities. Now there's a third Asian fraternity, one Hispanic fraternity and I believe 2 Latina sororities.
Eventhough it's fairly even, lots of sororities have socials with sports teams (Waterpolo=Yummy!) and fraternities at other colleges in town. Josh, Which school has more sororities? Is it USD? Ya'll can always do socials with them. Also, if there not enough sororities you can always do 3 and 4 ways with other chapters that your friendly with. :) |
My campus has 2 fraternities and 4 sororities. We usually have events with EVERYBODY, sometimes all of us together and other times with specific orgs. Also, we have events with other clubs on campus such as:
MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil de Aztlan) Latinos Unidos of HSU APASA (Asian Pacific American Student Association) BSU (Black Student Union) QSU (Queer Student Union) MCC (Multi-Cultural Center) and whoever else wants to have an event! |
I go to University of San Diego (USD) and we have 5 sororities and 4 fraternities right now....
Josh were you talking about my school that's unbalanced? I never thought it was too bad?? We had 5 fraternities at the beginning of this semester but Phi Kapp got kicked off campus around March... Our chapter of Delta Tau Delta is also really struggling, and I thought that I heard that it was going to become a club rather than a fraternity next semester... but then again, that's all heresay I heard that we might be getting SAE and DG next year too, but I dont know the validity of that info either:rolleyes: I never thought we had problems finding guys to mix with though... my chapter usually does a lot with Sigma Chi and Lambda Chi... and we had some events with the UCSD Pikes... :D |

Before QSU became QSU it used to be GLBTSA (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Student Association). This past year they decided that it didn't matter what you were, for the most part people considered you "queer." So, now they the club is called QSU (Queer Student Union). I guess they don't care about being PC. |
