Isn't the definition of "maintain" to keep something at a certain level, thus implying a degree of continuity and order? So if you're maintaining it, how can it be disorderly?

Raleigh NC has a local ordinance called a Nuisance Party Order. If a cop is called, arrives, finds your house and decides it to be "distruptive", you get a $300 ticket. Its hard to fight and mainly left to the officers discretion. I had a sorority sister get one with 5 people watching tv on a Saturday night. The cop was walking around and could see them through the window and wrote them one. (??) Your problem may be similar and a city ordinance

Also, NCSU has a student legal services. Consultations are always free and some representation is included (most that a college kid would need)

Publid Defenders are a rare breed of individuals that will work their ass off for people in a horrible, often desperate situation. Especially ones that do capital murder cases.

Our's isn't that bad. It's only $50 per person plus court costs. We're planning on getting to Student Legal Services on Tuesday when my roommates get back from Omaha. I would just like to know if someone can point me to the actual language of the statute. Unless you can post the statute, please don't feel the need to comment on my situation I appreciate the concern, but I'm looking for some help.

This is what I could find: A number of communities in Nebraska, including the City of Lincoln, prohibit maintenance of a disorderly house, this being any property, including a room, house, building, structure or other place where unlawful or illegal acts are committed or which unreasonably interfere with the health, safety, welfare and property of citizens or are a public or common nuisance. The ordinance as drafted proposes to prohibit owners, occupants or persons in possession, charge or control of a property to maintain a disorderly house and prohibits other persons from residing in, visiting or frequenting a disorderly house.

would you care to summarize it? I'm not likely to be caught buying or even reading Cosmo. It's not like I have a girlfriend right now, so I'm not going to rush out to the bookstore and check it out...;)

It basically says to start a paper trail, sending letters telling how the problem "compromises your health or safety." Get others in your building to send letters, too. It then says that almost every state has laws stating that landlords have to fix health hazard or uninhabitable risks within a certain amount of time. Some states allow you to "withhold the rent or deduct the cost of repairing it yourself from your rent under certain circumstances." It's just a small column, but when I read it I thought of this thread :)
