my scores
I tried the two tests that ktsnake linked to. For the first I scored an average of 45wpm; and the second link I scored an average of 66wpm. I liked the second test better - you type sentences that actually make sense. The first test I typed junk like "The new funny kittens are yellow. Old cars fit orange jackets." What's that about?!?! No wonder my scores were lower - that stuff doesn't make sense! :P
Anyway, I type in the "navane style." It's sort of a modified hunt and peck method. I primarily use the index and middle fingers on both hands with the ring finger used occasionally to hit outside keys like shift. For when I need to type something that's printed, I memorize lengths of sentences in one glance and then look at the keyboard while I type the entire segment. When I'm just tying from my head, I don't look at the keyboard as much. My "navane style" is extremely fast for a hunt and peck method. I'm much faster than those silly tests say. I probably type about 80wpm when I don't have to read off of something. When I worked as a computer consultant, I had co-workers exclaiming, "Man!! You type fast!!!" :) I never really learned to type "correctly" as you all put it. I've been using computers since I was 6 years old - I wouldn't expect a little girl to know how to touch type! :) .....Kelly :) |
