My first job

Some of y'all were on GC when I was working htere, but I worked at a law firm for the MEANEST, STINGIEST, SOULLESS people I have ever seen in my life!
I basically typed letters all day and at the end of the day packaged and sent out ALL The mail (all 100 or so letters). My first day there they gave me two pens, and made me put my INITIALS ON THEM. IF I asked someone for a pen they asked me, "where is YOUR pen?" A ten cent pen! My first week there I stayed late EVERY DAY. One day I was 15 minutes late and they actually docked my pay- even though they damn sure hadn't been paying me to stay late. I lasted two and a half weeks exactly before I showed up to give them my keys and split. It just went to show, you should never look for a job from a position of financial need because you will ignore your instincts and take it for the money, then when it's over you may or may not be in a worse position then you were to start with! Luckily I wasn't! |

The worst job I ever had was as a Traffic Accident Researcher. It was one of those one year assignments which you were contracted by the federal government to go to accident scenes to measure skidmarks and chart fatalities in some counties. It was depressing, I was basically following the scanners or CB radios for accidents and some times of the year like winter time was brutal.

The worst!!
The worst job that I ever had was working at Woolworth. I got paid $4.75 an hour for the worst manager around ( it could have been b/c he was a manager at Woolworth.) Anyway, he was form the islands but he played country music on the intercom ALL THE TIME!!!!! He constantly yelled at the employees, especially in front of the customers to the point the customers would shake their head. He yelled at me once b/c I punched the wrong numbers in the regester ( it was manual) and I didn't figure it out the differnce quick enough. He yelled at me and then told me to move out the way so he could do it. And I swear if all the girls go together we could file for sexual harrassment b/c he would massage thier shoulders and rub thier backs and ask for hugs. I wasn't trying to hear that! you are not my pappy!! my job lasted for 2 1/2 wks. I was happy when he fired me. He claimed my productivity went down. We got, during rush hour, a whopping 15 customers prob. a total of 30/day, and I guess if my boss is constantly yelling at me morale would go down.

Rain Man - i WISH that was a joke! If there is anyone in the LA area that sees an ad for this (its based in Long Beach) DONT DO IT! it is a straight bust.
12dn94dst - at least they tried to make it look all nice and legit on the 1st day for you! i cant believe that folks actually WORK at these places!? |
my worst experience was as a canvasser (read: door to door beggar) for an environmental organization during one summer in high school. I lasted about a month, but i left before i even got my first paycheck because i HAD to leave b4 i hurt somebody. They hyped us up in meetings, made us feel like we were "making a difference" and "saving the environment"... then someone would drive us out to the high-end suburbs and developments and LEAVE. we spent time walking door to door, soliciting donations, having people sign petitions, and disseminating information on the newest state and federal items up for vote concerning the environment, clean water, etc. That job was the WORST b/c it was my first experience with racism and sexism. Being a little dark-skinned girl with natural hair, i didn't fare as well as some of the other canvassers going door to door. Being female, the particular org. i worked with was male dominated so i never reall has an opportunity to "grow"... Did i mention i NEVER got paid... and this wasn't advertised as volunteer work? but alas, it was an experience, and i guess it helped open my eyes to the "real world."

My worst job was working at a frozen yogurt shop in high school. I hated making those dang waffle cones. My fingers were burned too many times. I never worked in any kind of food place again after that.

My Worst Jobs
I have had 2 horrible jobs:
1.) I worked at K-Mart for a worl for school credit program when I was in High School. It was a grip of us student workers. Most of them were lazy and did not do a darn thing. I, on the other hand, was (key word: WAS) looking to get hired permanently, so I took it upon myself to actually attempt to do some work. The store was in such a shambles though that any work you did only made a dent in what needed to be done. Y'all on my last day there they put me in the toy isle--THE WORST isle in the store!!!  That whole isle looked like World War III hit it--twice! Every time I would make some progress cleaning the isle, some dayum baddazz kid would come and mess it all up...That day I left and never came back (I kept the job for about 2 weeks)... 2.) The other terrible job I had was as a telemarketer at a call center on my campus. At first the job was all good--I was getting paid for the training and they had flexible hours so I was feeling it. But, once I actually started doing work--ALL HEYELL broke loose. We were suupposed to call ALUMNI of the university to ask them if they could donate some money to the school (mind you, some of these people had just graduated). We were also on the computer all day (or night) but did not have access to the internet. We had to memorize this entire speech, most of which you never got to recite b/c the person would hang up on you. Sometimes they recorded the conversations so that the supervisors could monitor your progress. Being that the nature of the job requires you to beg for money, I would think they would be understanding about you not getting too many donations when you just started to work there. BUT, NO, they had THE DAYUM NERVE to get a funky attitude with m and tell me I wasn't raking in enough $$!!!!  After that, they switched me to another group, where I was calling PARENTS asking them for money! WTF?! Now you know no parents have $$ to be giving away for free when their child is a student at our university! And we weren't asking for no chump change either!! I also left that job and never cme back (I called them and left a message saying that I'm not coming back after like a month and told them to not act like they were firing me either!)... See, these are the reasons why folks go "postal"... |
I think this one will take the cake
Believe it or not, my non-professional jobs were ok compared to my worst job which was professional. To give you an idea, my non-professional jobs included:
Litter crew member at Ohio State Fair Electronics sales clerk at Harts Register clerk at Super-X drugstore (that job was MAD boring, but not the worst) Sales clerk at Lazarus Assistant manager at frozen yogurt shot (not a bad job) But here's the kicker: I got a job as an accountant at a one-man bookkeeping and tax service in a working-class suburb. The owner, lets call him Jim put me through HELL and was a cheapskate to boot. Case in point, his office was a former motel, where the front office and one of the former motel rooms were part of his business and the remaining motel rooms he rented out to folx for about $100/month. Anyway, every time I made an error, no matter how small, he would get mad and cuss me out, saying stuff like "YOU STUPID $#!T, HOW COULD YOU DO THIS??!!" or "From now on, I'm gonna call you Stupid Man, cause what you did was stupid"). I couldn't even disagree with him without him throwing a tantrum. Example, I called a client three times and got no response and I asked why the need to call a fourth time. He threw a tantrum and I said, "Fine, I am calling him right now. Are you happy?" Jim replies "But you're fighting me every f[ornicat]ing step of the way!" We can't even agree to disagree. Well, on two occasions he hired a second assistant. One was a 48-year-old woman and one a 30-something male. While he didn't throw tantrums with them, neither of them stayed long. The woman lasted 8 weeks, the man lasted six days. By sheer coincidence, they both walked off the job at about 10 am by leaving a handwritten resignation note and bounced). On 2 independent occasions, mind you. Well, aside from me working from 8:30 am to about 7 pm every day, even after tax season and having to hear his bulljive lecture before he gave me my measly paycheck every pay, I managed to last 9 months. On my last day, it was the last straw. Here's what happened. Picture it, August 27, 1999 at 9:08 in the evening. I worked 12 hours to get a client's books ready. I had to call them to clarify a simple item on their books. I had to document all questions and responses when we call clients. Well, I got my answer and got them done. I get ready to go home and I was TIRED. Jim calls me in his office and asks me why I had to call a client to inquire about a simple matter. I responded that this client tended to goof on simple things such as this and I didn't want to assume anything. The rest of the conversation went like this: Jim: I don't think you know sales from cost. Me: Yes, I do. Jim: I don't think you do Me: (getting tired of his bulldrop) OK, fine, I don't Jim: Well, now as your boss-- Me: Hold up, the LORD is my boss. If you don't like the way I do things, I quit! Jim: WELL THEN GET THE F[ORNICATE] OUT!!! Me: Bye! Well, I make occasional visits to his office and I even gave him and his staff candy canes and Christmas cards at Christmastime. But he still makes lame excuses that he is busy and gives this fake, contrived, dung-eating grin that I know all too well is a front. But I went through nine months of pure HELL for that job and I will NEVER go through something like that for pay again. |

Yall were lucky to have tables set up. We just went business to business, store to store. The white lady who was with us tried to make herself look good in front of us by asking someone who "looked like" he didn't have any money for a donation. What made it worse was I saw a story about of the missing children on the tv(he was located). I told the lady and she wasn't even interested!!!! That's how I knew it was time to step because what they were was just for a paycheck. Not to mention the horrible pay. I didn't even show up after I had been told I was hired. Those 2 days of orientation were enough for me!!! |
My, you guys crack me up. The worst professional gig I had was my second journalism job. Had a bad boss who turned on me six months in. Dude ran up on me while outside the office and screamed at me. I quit (this was 13 years ago) and worked temps. In those days, I made enough to pay my $350 a month in rent and eat, too.

I have another job to put on blast. I received a letter in the mail stating that they needed college students for a customer service job. They promised $14 per appointment and guaranteed pay. Come to find out the job was for selling knives. Who do you know wants to buy knives? I didn't even show up after I found out I was hired.
