OK, you guys have really gone off on a tangent but it's been entertaining.

I have seen the movie a few times. It is about Eileen Stevens and her grass roots crusade to establish New York anti-hazing laws. Her son Chuck Stenzel, a Klan Alpine pledge, was killed in 1978 during a hazing incident at Alfred University. She established an organization called C.H.U.C.K. - Committee to Halt Useless College Killings. Eileen has been a powerful force in the anti-hazing movement and has helped many other states to create anti-hazing-laws. About 10 or so years ago, she became an alumna initiate of Alpha Phi.

I am so glad to learn that I have yet another wonderful sister out there! :)

On another note, I think this woman is a bit sensitive towards deaths that were partially caused by a group belonging to the Greek system. I think the labeling of "hazing" incidents by her may have gone a little too far, but I believe she just wants to put an end to Greek violence, of any sort. Who doesn't?

Of course, I understand that just because one Greek organization does it does not mean that all organizations do it. One organization doing something wrong reflects on us all, such as the family of a thief looks as if they are thieves as well. To break a stero-type is to change the way people think about a given situation.

Just my thoughts. :)

Eileen Stevens came and spoke at my school. She didn't seem anti-greek to me, only anti-hazing. Who can blame her? The fraternity brothers locked her son and the other pledges in the trunk of a car in the dead of winter without a coat and forced them to drink a lethal amount of beer and Jack Daniels. He died the next day. From what I can recall, her intention seemed to be to reform the greek system not to eliminate it.

exactly what i was going to say.... this woman doesn't appear to be anti-greek at all - if she was i highly doubt she would have accepted alum initiation into Alpha Phi - she does appear to be anti-hazing, which in reality, is something most of us are - i for sure don't agree with hazing.
