We do not have a Dance Marathon at our school, but it sounds like something I am very interested in beginning at our school. We'll see what happens.

OK...here's a stupid question. Is DM solely for CMN or do some dance marathons contribute to other philanthropies? I'd like to do something for our local philanthropy (juvenile diabetes) and I'd really like to do a dance marathon.

All of the money raised at individual school dance marathons stays local to help the children's hospital in that area. no matter what disease the child is suffering from, CMN helps them. From the CMN website:

Quote:

Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Each year these non-profit hospitals treat more than 17 million children afflicted with diseases, injuries and birth defects of every kind.
Children's Miracle Network's founding pledge to put children first in all it does and keep 100 percent of donations in the community where they were raised remains at the core of its philosophy.

Yet Children's Miracle Network has grown dramatically since its founding in 1983, when its first televised fund raiser aired from a small private studio and raised $4.7 million for hospitals.
In just 18 years Children's Miracle Network has evolved into the dominant organization actively providing better health care for millions of children through its 170 affiliated hospitals. In addition to producing the largest television fund raiser in the world, Children's Miracle Network organizes and executes thousands of special events and promotions each year through its dedicated corporate sponsors and media partners.

This tremendous year-round effort is helping to save and improve the lives of children with cancer, heart defects, diabetes, AIDS, muscular dystrophy, and accident trauma, to name a few. To date Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2 billion for children's hospitals-$228 million in 2001 alone. But the need is still great; in just one year Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide charity care worth billions.

So while Dance Marathon is a CMN event - it helps children suffering from all kinds of diseases.

DM @ GSU

I'm glad someone brought this back up.

At GSU we haven't had DM there for very long. With the new school year, this will be the 4th one. The PHC here coordinates the whole thing, but I sat on Exec about 2 years ago (I'm not a part of PHC, but I was asked to assist).

DM has gone from 24 hours to 12 the last time my chapter participated. And I think we're still trying to crack the $10,000 mark. I think if DM was open to all the campus organizations, we could do it. However, the last 3 were VERY greek oriented, and if you saw our greek list that I posted earlier, that's not a lot. Also, our NPHC greeks didn't even participate from what I remember.

My chapter always has fun at these. So we were a little miffed when we were not informed about it last year (they changed it from Spring to Fall). Hopefully we'll get another chance this year.
