For our lawn display we first came up with the idea (obviously)...they group the greek houses into Triads (usually one sorority and 2 fraternities) and the homecoming chairpersons get together and discussed the possibilities.

Once you have an idea, I'd say start by drawing diagrams, and figuring how big it is going to be. Try to make the plans detailed as possible. Then go buy your supplies, and find the other things you might need (like we had to find cornstalks and tractor tires). If you are going to pomp the display dont forget the chicken wire and LOTS of tissue paper, as well as some sort of adhesive (I think we used wall paper paste...you can get big tubs and then just brush it on the chicken wire so the tissue paper sticks)

Once the supplies are assembled, let the fraternity men build the frame. Then staple the chicken wire to the frame, call the sorority to come over, cut the tissue paper into squares about 5 inches by 5 inches, then slap some glue on the wire and start putting tissue paper into the holes. It will be time consuming but worth it (I hope!). Usually the girls only come over do the tissue paper part.

If you need to clarify on anything just post again, or better yet PM me...

Homecoming at our school is crazy! Thousands and thousands of people (mostly alumni psyched to relive their college years) filter into town for the weekend. I'm sure lots of you can understand! We do floats. Sororities and fraternities pair off with each other or with some sports teams or other club and build a float for the huge parade on Friday before the game the next day. It's a week long process getting the float ready. The floats get judged during the parade. There are also games during the week that greeks and non-greeks alike can partke in like scavenger hunts around campus and a king and queen competition.

Betarulz gave a good idea of how to build a float, but a helpful tip-you can buy tissue paper already cut to pomp size (pomps being tissue paper squares that you stick into the chicken wire). Being that you'll need a TON of them the pre-cut ones can be SO helpful!!

Well....since it's said that homecoming started at my school, every year it is an absolutely huge production. We do house decs, we do fling (25 min skits), we do floats, a service project, and something else but I forgot.....Anyway, as for theme ideas.....I know last year's was Unleash the Legend, and everyone basically did a fairy tale kind of thing, like Robin Hood and stuff, though I think AKL and DG did something with cereal box characters.....who knows. Sorry I can't be of more help!
