She probably will, it makes my heart to think about it, but she probably will get half of what was made after marriage. Although I am not sure what the law reads on funds that are from pre-marriage investments, stock options etc.

For example, I believe in some states that a house or property owned prior to marriage is not subject to the division of assets.

Although it really is hard to value Mrs. Welch's contribution to the wealth of the couple. It might have been "hey hun, I wanted to add a few thousand I made to your one billion, just to show I am doing my part"

But I will say, if she gets a huge settlement, that the best career option for many women might be a wife of a wealthy man.

A good career option for any man is to marry the future ex-Mrs. Jack Welch!:p

James 03-14-2002 03:31 PM

LOL, good point. Anyone have her number? Although, the court is not usually as sympathetic (at least in the past couple decades) in awarding men these hug divorce settlements. . . but yeah 13 years for even 250 million? Sounds good to me:).

Cabana Boy here I come !

James, you know that you would be happy with $25 million! lol! :D

Maybe I shoud call my old pal Jack and ask him to fix me up with his Ex. I'm sure my wife would understand under the circumstances.

James 03-14-2002 08:52 PM

LOL, maybe, but women are funny that way ;)

Good point.

Here's an idea. DeltAlum, you marry the ex Mrs. Jack Welch and then she becomes the future ex Mrs. DeltAlum. You get half of her half of JW's fortune which you share with the current Mrs. DeltAlum. How could she object?
I'll marry and then become the next future ex Mrs. Jack Welch. I'll get half of his fortune. Actually, he is way more than twice my age plus or minus seven or whatever formula James had. Does he have any single sons? :p

Good plan, but to be fair, we have to find James some bucks here since he is the one who originally pointed out the potential windfall.

James,
You are closer than you think- she lives in Connecticut- just a an hour from NYC!

We all have to remember that Mrs. W. might not be saying HALF- but we all know her lawyers are! The more $ she gets- the more they get. So, I'm sure they are wispering all sorts of figures to her!

DeltAlum 03-15-2002 05:04 PM

Another good point, but I'll bet she'll be able to eek by as well with what's left.

Peaches-n-Cream 03-15-2002 11:43 PM

LOL! :p

James 03-15-2002 11:52 PM

25 million for thirteen years? I don't think so, if I can't make that muself I will have failed . . . but if she threw something else in to sweeten the bargain I might accept the 25 million as a severance bonus.

Cream,

On reconsideration, James is on his own. We'll have to work this out ourselves.

I'll have to be careful, though, Mrs. DeltAlum doesn't like it when I date.
