I would say that I don't really believe in it but a sister of mine read me and my husbands Tarot cards one month after meeting us and I would have to say that she really hit the target. She didn't know anything about us and a lot of stuff that my husband and I talked about we had never discussed with anyone. It was kind of creepy...she later became my little sister!!

Have a nice day :)

The first thing she told me was that reading your own tarot cards is bad luck. Now, I don't really believe in "luck" at all -- things happen. They can be prevented if you are willing to make the sacrifices and decisions that are necessary. However, in all the tarot books I've read, there are no warning about how reading your own cards or looking at the pictures on your cards when you're not reading them is bad luck.

Nope-not true. There are different layouts you use when making a "quickie" type reading however, be it for youself or another.

Two things all books say are important though-
When not in use-wrap them in their cloth and keep them in a place where they won't be misused or moved about. For example-if you leave them out and you rush to straighten things up-you might put a mag. over them or toss them into a drawer.

Second-very important-You and the person you read for should be the ONLY ones to handle the cards.

As far as the bad coming back to you-never heard or read that. Sounds like some information put out there to discourage the practice.

It's all bunk!!!

It's difficult to imagine that anybody would believe in this stuff. The only bearing on reality is the perception of those who subscribe to it.

I think tarot cards are real. :) I have like, three decks. Don't read much since I came to college though. The bad stuff coming back...yeah that is karma. Don't cheat people or tell them they are going to die. That is unethical.

One of my sorors does tarot readings and she is ALWAYS right on the money. It's actually kind of scary. Speaking of New Age stuff. I got a new dream book and the stuff I dream about and look up is kinda scary!

I have been reading cards for years. I'm acurrate most of the time - I'd say 97%. The trick is that any good card reader is also a good person reader. I sit and talk with the person for a bit before the reading and then proceed. Anyone in old San Antone who wants a reading, let me know, I'll do it for free.:)

Forgive my skepticism. I have seen some strange, unexplainable stuff, but in general, I think that Tarot readings are a gimmick, and in retrospect, I should have gotten into it as a profession. Good returns on mostly generalized guesses wrapped around common sense counseling.

Bumping this because I am majorly procrastinating.

I believe in occult-type stuff to a point....Tarot is one of the things I believe in. I read my own cards from time to time, and though I never get precise answers, I also don't generally ask precise questions. (Probably too afraid of the accuracy, lol)

I own the Rider-Waite deck and the Tarot of the Ages.

I pretty much agree with you, Senusret. I have my own cards and while I'm not very good at readings, I'm getting better with practice . . .

I'm not sure I believe in a lot of occult type things, but I don't consider Tarot cards "occult" -- to me they are just a way of focusing your thinking and getting you to think in new ways and bring up ideas that you may not have thought of.

Senruset - You might be like me as far as I have a hard time doing a reading for myself but am usually pretty accurate when reading others.

S&S - I agree with what you said about the Tarot helping you to focus your thinking. I think of it as a way to exercise the mind!

I used to go have a tarot reading once a week before I moved. I hadn't had one professionally done since.

I have a tarot deck that I brought about two years ago. I used to do my own readings, but I haven't done a reading in more than a year. This was due to a reading that kinda frightened me. Now I would like to resume doing my own readings with my deck. Could I still use it or do I have to buy a new one?

There are actually people that make their living -- have businesses in strip malls as psychic/tarot/palm reader types around here.

Never been though.

Some people have the gift to do certain things.

Actually, all have a gift. I have had hits of wisdom about insights that are not to be beleived.

It takes some honeing to perfect it, most dont take the time to do it.

Oh of course there are many Like Madam SuSu who is a gypsy who make nothing but money from dumb asses! DA!

No one really knows what the Brain is capable of, do any of you?

Used to do self hypnosis and got distracted and lost it.

Had a Hypnotist at GA, Amazing what people did. NOt jsut ones on the stage, but ones brought up on stage from the room to be a part of after they were in a semi trance for lack of a better word.

Truth cannot ever be stranger than what it be really like!!!

I've been reading the tarot since I was about 14. So far I haven't done any damage. I've been tald I'm quite accurate, actually.

And yes, you're right about the readers congregating in Jackson Square. They seem a bit freaky to me, but I leave them alone, and they leave me alone.

As for "Miss Cleo"...the less said, the better.
