At the University of Michigan-Flint all of the Greeks and many of our close friends hang out on the 3rd floor of the University Center. The area where we usually sit at is half way between the Office of Student Life and the Grill. We've had some cheap shots taken at us from students who write into the newspaper about how we all sit together. I think that they are just jealous. We don't care, they can say whatever they want. We have a pretty tight Greek system and all of us hang out together.

Ok, when on campus during the day, there's the Student Union. There are places to get food there (like D'Angelo's, Burger King, a soup place, bagel place, etc.), and all the Greeks generally sit in the same section. It's funny, you can find the Kappa Sig section, the Chi Phi section, the TEP section, etc. A lot of guys, when rushing, comment on the fact that they "always see you guys in the Union by the convenience store."
As far as at night - there are a couple of bars that are big Greek hangouts. A couple aren't so hard on IDs, so many of the Greeks go there on Wed.-Sat. nights. Collin |
There isn't really any place on campus at Eastern Mich where people hang out. But, at night it's this Coney place called Gianni's b/c it's right around Normal, which is our greek row and right down the street fromthe old LXA and Sig Tau houses. It's 24hr, so that's cool, or we are at Theo's on monday nights. That's our bar night!

At UMass, Greeks go back to their houses during the day. Independents hang out either near their department's building (ala the English major hippies, who sit in front of Bartlett Hall smoking ten thousand cigarettes and talking about....I can't imagine what, I'm in a real major) or in their residential area, hanging out in the Horseshoe or the Quad or the Bowl or wherever. Though I must say the weather is rarely cooperative with standing outdoors- the whole campus is one big wind tunnel during the winter.

Besides frat parties and various downtown clubs, the Greek hangout for UF is definitely the Swamp. It's weird, b/c it's right on University Avenue where everyone hangs out on the front lawn within the white picket fence, and it's just a big party (cops driving by every five minutes to check on us.) It's a huge Greek fest. Every guy is someone you've seen at a party and every girl is someone who rushed you. When my non-Greek friends make the once-in-blue-moon trip over there, I wonder what they're thinking...they're too anti-Greek to enjoy themselves! :D

When I was in school, we'd always meet up at Locos for a beer or two in between classes. Locos was located in the Student Union, which had other places to eat/study, so we were always bumping into sisters there. :D

With such a large campus as UofT I can't really say there is one spot. However after Monday night meetings every house tends to show-up at a local pub call The Madison Avenue Pub. The basement is 99% greek and the staff brings out complimentary platters of wings and pizza every so often. I think more business gets handled here than in meetings :)
