I love dos-i-dos (sp?)!!!
I liked the ones last year that were shaped like apples and had cinnamon and sugar on top-but I can't get them this year:(

Samoas and Thin Mints are AWESOME!

Perhaps they named them "Samoas" because they have coconut in them, and the nation of Samoa is known for coconuts and coconut oil? Just a guess. :confused:

In trying to find the answer to this question, I found some interesting figures on which cookies are most popular. This is from the Girl Scout website:

What are the best-selling Girl Scout cookies?

A: Our biggest sellers are:

* Thin Mints -- 26 %
* Samoas®/Caramel deLites™-- 19%
* Peanut Butter Patties®/Tagalongs® -- 13%
* Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos™ -- 12%
* Shortbread/Trefoils -- 11%
* The other varieties combined account for the remaining 19%.

Trefoils are the oldest Girl Scout cookie.

Ok, so.....
The girl scouts don't sell they're cookies at the groceries stores around UCF. Something about poor college students....
So, I called my mom and asked her to get me a box of Tagalongs, Thin Mints, and Samoas (which are all my favs).
She had them sitting in the pantry waiting for me for when I go back home next weekend.
But (gasp!) my sister and father found the stash and finished all my cookies in ONE DAY!!!!! :mad: So, this year, I don't get to eat the yummy girl scout cookies.
I just can't believe they're $3 a box. I'm pretty sure they were only $1.50 when I sold them (I was a Brownie and a Junior :) ).

I think they are a big ripoff and its a totally annoying that two months a year I cant go to the bank , post office, grocery story, dept store, or anywhere without having a bunch of 8 year old girls bug me to buy cookies.

PS.. The wall st journal did a story a on girl scout cookies and almost none of the money actually goes to the girls. Why doesnt the Girl Scouts of America just sell the cookies to the supermarkets the way Keebler and Nabisco do it? Its stupid to have parents stand outside of a supermarket every weekend selling cookies when the cookies could just be on the shelves.

I had heard the same thing a couple of years back.. does anyone know if this has any true basis (ie a study or investigation)?

The Girl Scout troops do get a percentage of sales, but I don't think it's very high.

I do buy from people at work whose daughters are Girl Scouts (particularly if the person in question is my boss ;) ) but other than that - I'd rather make a charitable contribution where 100% of my contribution goes to a good cause.

God OTW, I KNEW we were soul mates, but this confirms it! I always keep the thin mints in the freezer. Thats the best. gobble them down with some milk. MMMMMmmmm. I swear I ration them out, and only allow myself on package a month. People always become real chummy with me around August... :confused: :confused: :confused:

My godmother (a truely brilliant woman) would buy a case or two and give them to her friends or coworkers on holidays/birthdays. the perfect gift for soemone you want to remember, but dont wanna drop serious cash on. I also believe their value increases as the year wears on...

G8Ralphaxi 02-11-2002 03:58 AM

mmmmm...Thin Mints in the freezer...eat them while they're cold...yummmm...

(just a little daydreaming)

Can't find any damn Girl Scouts this year. Where the heck are the little urchins hiding? Just because we're a college town doesn't mean we won't buy cookies! I mean, heck, look at all the crap college students eat/drink/smoke/ingest/etc. on a daily basis. We're not going to turn our noses up at cute little chocolate cookies.

OTW, you should sell your extra boxes on Ebay in about a month or so - you'd make some serious $$$, I'd expect!

If not, I'd be happy to send you MY address, and you can donate to the "Poor Law Student Needs Chocolate" Foundation. :D We're working on getting tax exempt status. ;)

Hahahaha lifesaver dear... you're too much. Some mornings I'll wake up with a craving...so it's off to the fridge to get my Thin Mints fix!

G8RAlphaXi--Cash is pretty low these days..selling em on eBay sounds like a great idea!!!

Kevlar281 02-11-2002 12:54 PM

Tagalongs and the Shortbread cookies are my favorites.

Side Note Story: During rush this spring I was at XYZ’s function just hanging out when one of the girls there that I assumed was in a sorority since we had not been properly introduced sits down with her boyfriend on an opposite couch from me talking about how she forgot to bring the order form for the cookies. Looking to make conversation I ask if it is a fundraiser and she says yes, she is selling Girl Scout cookies. So I ask if she is helping out her little sister by selling cookies to some of the fraternities and she goes no I am in the Girl Scouts. The look the boyfriend gave me was classic and there was a bit of tension in the air the rest of the time I was there.

Hey Lifesaver or OTW,

If you guys are willing to part with a box or two (or 3 or 4 or 12) of Thin Mints, I would gladly take them off your hands. :D

I have not seen any Girls Scouts around so I might have to go without my Thin Mints this year. So sad:( :D

KarenC725 02-11-2002 02:24 PM

Tag-a-longs rock. Too bad I don't know any girl scouts this year...

FuzzieAlum 02-11-2002 03:15 PM

I could live on Thin Mints, but then I'd get to big to get off my couch!

TriSigmaTX 02-17-2002 09:59 PM
