As a "light skinned brother" I have to say, that I never felt out of style, never really had a problem getting womens' attention, nor did I ever feel that I was being surpassed by my "dark skinned" counterparts.

I really think that this whole conversation is extremely ridiculous. And the fact that this discussion has even survived this long sickens me. It's fine that Hollywood has just recognized that there is more to our race than just the fair skinned men and women, but for our own women to perpetuate this debate is disheartening to say the least. You all are showing the true depth (or lack therof) of your thinking!

(I hope I fulfiled your expectations of light skinned men being conceited)

Listen here Fatty, I mean Fatto LMAO.
light skin is coming back. *LMAO* AGAIN
I am just playing with you. I sincerely think that you are taking this topic out of text. Can we ponder and think about things, and wonder where Topics of the such came from. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and ask questions. Now I respect what you typed, and I'm sorry that you feel that way. Not all light skinned people/brothers are conceited. That is not the topic. I am light skinne, and I am not conceited. So there is no despute in all light skinned people are conceited. It that person's own persona. Unluckily for you, it's too bad that you are conceited. Maybe it get you points maybe it don't. But it is terribly ugly to see a Man NO MATTER WHAT HIS SHADE IS, BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE, AND UGLY ON THE INSIDE, It says alot about himself and his character. But I forgot, this isn't a topic men would discuss, since a man's world is clouded with @ss and Breast all the time.
 How shallow is that for my thinking.
:D I love you still no matter what you say, or what your shade is. Giving someone the benefit of the doubt is the best thing We all can do.
XOXOX

What is wrong with this discussion exactly? We all know that the media changes it's conception of what is REALLY black fairly often. I don't think that we are either out of line or perpetuating any stereotypes by discussing when there was a switch from a majority of light skinned men on tv in movies and music to a majority of darker skinned.

I think you need to relax, relate and release fatto.

korkscru 02-08-2002 02:28 PM

Fatto, this is JUST a message board. How in the world could you even BEGIN to dictate or know someone's TRUE persona by a mere few lines that they posted on a message board? I'm hoping that you realize that there's more to people (myself included) than that. IT'S JUST A DOGGONE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION!!!!! Nothing more. Nothing less. No one is DEBATING anything on this particular post. The post was started to identify a "round about" time that darker-skinned men were being more recognized. YOUR issues with the "dark-skinned/light-skinned" thing goes MUCH deeper than this particular post. I find it kinda hypocritical that you would make ASSUMPTIONS about... (how did you put it?)... "...our own women...." What does THAT say about YOUR thinking (or the LACK thereof)?

WORK IT OUT, BROTHER, WORK IT OUT !!!!

DELTAQTE 02-08-2002 06:11 PM

hey

I think it was Wesley, he's as black as they come, and since he played in a role that made him have power, folks were attracted to that.

Another stereotype about light skinnded:) folks is that if you are light, you HAVE to look good. I remember when Xscape came out and how everybody at my school was like "I can't believe the light one is so ugly! You don't see that much" and so on.

But it's the opposite for dark skinnded folks, if you are pretty and have long hair, folks act like you are rare or something.

QTE;)

Alright y'all, I'm 'bout to take it back....

I think it started with Bobby Brown!!! Back in JHS, I remember that almost all of the girls looooved his chocolate behind!!! That's pre-Whitney and pre-crack/cocaine (y'all know!). I remember this girl I knew did a short survey asking the girls who they'd prefer to see naked: Bobby or Al B. Sure. All but 4 girls picked Bobby Brown. Need I say more???? :D

The Polo ads of him tall, dark and bald put that on the map as THE official trend.

Wesley has made comments (in Ebony, Essence, EW) about how he no longer dates black women because
1. we are too harsh and demanding"
2. no black woman wanted him bach in the day,(because he was too dark and ugly) but now since he has "blown up", black women are throwing themselves at him

CJUS 02-20-2002 03:43 PM

Yeah that's what I was thinking -New Edition or Troop. They didn't stay out long, but they came out along with Al B. Sure

CJUS 02-20-2002 03:45 PM

   No he did not. Well, who's up on him now that he is Played

As far as Al B. Sure! is concerned, he definitely looked better with the sunglasses!! That unibrow of his started to scare me after awhile. I often wondered when he'd shave between them to make them look like two eyebrows.

Now Ralph Tresvant was the cutie of N.E. and Johnny Gill was Bobby's replacement who didn't look that cute but he could sing his butt off!!! I dunno, but I heard a few rumors about him a few years ago. One was that he was (and I'm gonna use AKA2D '91's words) tutti fruitti. Another rumor I heard was that he and Janet Jackson had a thing going on some time back. Oh well, the rumor mill will continue to spin....
