never a bridesmaid but always just a wedding guest. Alas, I have never had the privilege though my best friend from vet school asked me to be hers but it was a traditional chinese wedding and the dress was over 200$ and I was never going to wear it again so I had to turn her down b/c I was poorer than dirt then. Anyways, got another weeding to go to in 3 weeks. My friends always try and pick out one of their guests to force upon poor single me-ugggg.
BTW, on a dim note has anyone been seeing a large number of divorces since Sept. 11th? I know of 5 people rt. now getting a divorce-coincidence? People I though had a rock solid marriage-very depressing. I think I will stay happily single for now (like I have a choice:rolleyes: ) |

I think people are just making choices about how to live their lives that reflect the NOW because there may not be a tomorrow. I know a lot of people who have decided to get married or moved their wedding dates up as a result of 9/11 too. |
Kind of on the same subject, anyone ever have one of their best friends tell you that you can't get married without their blessing? Last I checked, this person wasn't the pope either.

I have never been a bridesmaid but a lot of friends from High School have already gotten married. And, a few of the girls in my sorority have been engaged. A couple of girls from the pledge classes that just seem like that graduated (96 and 97) have gotten married. They'll come back to chapter meetings and they're introduced with their new last name. |
Not so much that I couldn't marry without their blessing, but I do have a really close friend from my last job who was quite opinionated about the way things should be.
Both of us were divorced, and when I met her, I had been engaged to my (now) husband for a while. He was also divorced, and NOT the type of person who enjoys getting all formal. Our plan from the start was to go to a Justice of the Peace, but my friend had other visions. I couldn't tell you how many times I heard something about how it was just sooo sad that we weren't getting married in a church with a huge guest list, fancy dress, cake, etc. Been there, done that. Didn't make it work. So, if both of US agree that jeans are fine, just GO WITH IT! I felt like saying.... 'it's our decision to wear sweats if we want to. we're going a little more formal than that. if you don't like it, fine. when you're the one getting married, let's see how much you enjoy someone else planning everything for you.' |
It really irked me that she felt that she had to give me a blessing for anything! I don't remember her asking for mine for her current no-income, deadbeat fiancee. The way I view it, if the person is happy, be happy for them. As long as there isn't any abuse (emotional, mental or physical) leave them alone!

Boyfriendless

I am just like you AmyCat either I am the ONLY one of my friends/sisters who has a boyfriend or I am the ONLY one who DOES NOT have a boyfriends, and with my least favorite holiday right around the corner it would figure that I am the boyfriendless one yet again for the Crush Party 2002 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRR I hate boys sorry I know that this is a little off topic but I needed to vent    |
My favorite was announcing I was getting married, only to have another friend do the same and set the date before ours, just so she could do it first. I know this probably isn't the case, but seriously, it's not like she couldn't hold any place in town she wanted. Just wait until everyone tells her how to plan her wedding.. let's see how that goes...
And a pet peeve.. if you are already married, you had your chance to do what you want... if not, you will.. this is MINE, mnot yours to plan. (let's just say I've gotten really good at the "that's a great idea (insert head nodding) we'll be sure to think about it.") |

I am dying to be a bridesmaid! I think it would be such an honor! Actually, I really just want to plan the bachelorette party ;) . Seriously, though, all my friends know I will be the last to marry, and that is just fine with me!
