Oooooh, please. We can talk about alcohol policy and drinking age all we want, but it boils down to the guys like the girls good and drunk so they're easier. If the guys learned to get girls without getting them drunk first a lot of this crap wouldn't be happening.

This is sounding an awful lot like slut shaming and blaming the girls because the guys can't keep control of their situation. The reason there aren't drunken parties in sorority houses is because the sororities have taken control of their own situation. The fraternities won't go dry because how would they ever get dates again?

I agree that discussing alcohol is a surface topic.

However it is inaccurate to characterize the perpetrators of sexual assault and rape (with and without alcohol) as losers who can't get consensual sex. That is typically not true. Such characterization is "masculinity shaming" that pretends the root of this behavior is sex. Instead, root correlates of this behavior are power and misconceptions regarding gender, sexual orientation, and sexuality.

Equally as annoying as slut shaming or victim blaming is making women perpetual victims. We need to do away with the notion of women as nothing more than "walking tits, ass, and wombs". We also need to do away with the notion of women as actual or eventual victims.

Discrepancies in power and misconceptions regarding gender, sexual orientation, and sexuality will persist as long as women are told they are always victims; and as long as people pretend "no means no" is always so transparent.

^^^^this post is EVERYTHING.

Another part of the problem is when students have too much $, which they increasingly do. I remember us scraping together change from the couch to get into Meister Brau Mania night. We had to learn to drink beer (crappy weak beer, not 11% micro brews) because the concept of all hard liquor all the time simply wasn't financially feasible.

Disclaimer: I realize things may be different in stafes where there can actually be competition with liquor prices.
