I think the same would happen with a 'Jaws' re-make. What made 'Jaws' a great movie was the mystery of the shark. You rarely saw it. The point of the movie was to build suspense. And the few times we did see the shark, it looked real enough. I don't think a re-make is necessary. Just my opinion. |
I know they just did it, but it was nothing like the book so I would like a proper World War Z please.

I see a remake as a new movie using the same story but with a different cast. I see a sequel as a movie in which the story of the first/original movie continues, with or without the original cast. Quote:

Not likely to happen but I'd like to see some of my favorite fantasy series made into movies. Anne McCaffery's Pern, L.E.Modesitt's Recluse or Imager.

Forget Jurassic Park. Let's use 'War of the Worlds' instead. In the original, the special effects they tried to pull off where horrible. They were impressive at the time the movie was released, I'm sure, but now they just look extremely fake. I agree that it was a good idea to remake that movie. If you haven't seen the original and/or remake, search online for some scenes, and it won't take you long to see what I mean. 'Jaws', on the other hand, had nothing "wrong" with it. There's not much you can do to alter that story. The shark already looked lifelike enough. Why remake it? So that the shark can look like something straight out of 'Deep Blue Sea' (1999)? 'Jaws' is a classic and was done well then. I think they should just leave it alone. But hey - no need to reinvent the wheel, right? Just take an old story and old script from a popular movie and make millions of dollars. This seems to be Hollywood's MO lately. It drives me crazy that no one seems to be able to come up with their own creative ideas anymore! ...Sorry, it's Monday :p |
I am looking forward to the Outlander series on STARZ.
I would like to see the Deborah Harkness books (A Discovery of Witches, etc.) made into movies. |
According to IMDB.com the 2nd book in the Mortal Instruments series is being made into a movie but who knows how accurate IMDB.com actually is as I guess City of Bones didn't do so well in the theaters. We shall see.
As for James Patterson, it is more I wanted different books made into movies and it isn't any of his series books. The individual stand alones I enjoyed more like Swimsuit or Kill Me If You Can. As for the ones made into movies/TV movies, I loved Kiss the Girls but hated Sunday's at Tiffany's. I'd really like to see the continuation of the I Am Number 4 series made into movies, but like City of Bones it didn't do to well in the theaters. |

James Patterson has a way of building suspense in a book that is really hard to match in a movie, hence the reason I don't want them turning any more of his books into movies; not until someone finds a way to get it right, anyway. I always go in expecting a 'Silence of the Lambs'-type thriller and I leave disappointed every time. ETA: Why do smiley faces keep appearing in the title of my posts?! |

I'm not a fan of remakes. I enjoy a few of them but prefer originals. |

Where's Denzel Washington when you need him?! :) |
LOL. In the 1980s-1990s it was either Morgan Freeman or Denzel Washington because those were the mainstream Black men actors under 50 yo. In the 2000s we have more options. LOL. How did Tyler Perry get the gig?
|
True that City of Bones didn't do well in theaters, and I heard about the 2nd Mortal Instruments being adapted, but production has been delayed and the director from the first movie dropped out, and there's been no talk of a release date, so, I just hope they don't cancel it.

I'd love to see Stephen King's "It" made into a movie. It was a made for TV movie, and I think Tim Curry did a great job as Pennywise the Clown, but it could have been a lot better. The book was scary as hell and the only one of Stephen King's books to give me nightmares!*
*I hate clowns |

I remember really liking Tolan's Welcome to the Ark book as a kid. I'm not sure how well it would hold up over time, but based on what I remember, it could be a good movie. It's supposed to be part of a trilogy, but she's been working on the third book for over a decade now. |
