Their enrollment is now pushing 16,000. I would guestimate that they were at 4000 around 1980. In the same time period Cheyney went from 3000 down to 1200.

WCU is still growing too.

West Chester only has 13,000 students and their enrollment going up has nothing to do with Cheyney's going down. Other SSHE schools have had similar enrollment declines over the same giant period of time, but you aren't calling for their closure. The only reason you want Cheyney closed is because LOTS OF BLACK PEOPLE GO THERE.

I attended one SSHE school (Lock Haven), with a student population of 5,000 and a small branch campus.

I loved my time while at LHU, and I even joined a sorority (AST) while I was there!

Now, I advise the AST chapter at West Chester. Their student population is pushing 15-16,000k. They've just added one sorority (ADPi), planning on adding another, and added another fraternity (Pike).

The two student cultures are different, which I thoroughly enjoy. Students within in the commonwealth of PA need to be able to have choices of where they attend school....

I think the new dorms are outrageous- and not in a good way. SRU's cafeteria is like a real restaurant (admittedly I will drive out of my way specifically to eat there if I'm in the Butler area!). Which is fine, but at the end of the day, someone has to pay for all the bells and whistles. These are mostly working class kids. The extra money involved may make the college out of reach for many, and that defeats the purpose.

I don't think there are any "old" dorms left, except for North Hall (girls dorm.) Everything is either new or has been renovated. I think kids should have an option. If you're they type who is more introverted, or who has always had your own space- get a suite. If you want the experience of living with a bunch of homesick freshmen insta-bonding, or if you are on a tighter budget, live in a traditional dorm. There are a lot of us who went there who grew up in small houses wih shared bedrooms and enjoyed the experience of the "real" dorms!

That's interesting. Bloomsburg still has 7 real residence halls, but all are co-ed now. Outside of that, there are 4 apartment complexes as well. I think freshmen still have to live in the residence halls, but outside of that, there aren't many restrictions.

I could be wrong, so if someone more familiar with the campus knows anything feel free to correct me.
