I agree with Kappagirl, as greeks , a lot of people will ask questions, they deserve the same respect as if they are asking in person. Plus a lot of new comers don't really know all the functions of greekchat, and I am pretty sure they are not asking just to annoy us, but to learn for future references, like I am sure we all did at one point and time, and somethingstupid is right as well, this board really shows the diversity of greeks, some are nice and some aren't http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

Well I cannot answer for YA'ALL, but I cannot be on 54 hr.a day! I totally enjoy seeing these comments! Everything is new each time someone posts something! I will always remember Mrs. Cortright my 4 th grade teach who said the dumbest question is the one never asked. But she would beat hell out of me! I wasn't bad but boy was I mischevous!!! Hers was usually the 1 st of the 5 I go that day all the way down the line at least 4 days a week!! Hve heart all of you TRUE BELEIVERS!!
For all of the ones who have fun on this site, there is a thing called tounge in cheek, but be careful do not bight of the toungh!! ------------------ Tom Earp LX Z#1 Pittsburg State U. (Kansas) |
Would ya'll seriously turn someone away who asked you a question about being Greek? I'm not trying to attack anyone; I was genuinely surprised to read that. Maybe ya'll meant that you would say that to someone who asked intentionally stupid questions like "why would you buy your friends?" or "what kind of hazing does your GLO do?" ? In that case, I misunderstood. Or were ya'll saying that you would tell someone who was honestly interested in Greek life to go research it themselves? That seems out of character for everyone here so I'm hoping I misunderstood. I think most Greeks are more than happy to share info about how great all our organizations are, no matter redundant people's questions may be. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

You know I kinda think this is a lose-lose situation. Here's how I see it: If we (GC regs) tell peeps repeatedly to do a search, we're seen as mean/rude or whatever, right? HOWEVER, I'm not seeing how it could be better if we ignore stupid or redundant posts. Don't ya'll think that's STILL mean/rude to not answer a post at all!? I know if I were new and posted something (not knowing it was asked 1 million times already) and NO ONE answered, I'd be upset and probably wouldn't come back (I'm not one to keep asking stuff if I know SOMEONE on this board could have answered it...I mean, geez, people answered other posts, why not mine?).
To me, it seems that either way, we could potentially lose new users b/c we either: answered in a mean/rude way OR were mean/rude by ignoring their post! Sheesh! What is the answer to all this madness?!! LOL! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I think if we could get that FAQ sheet to pop up when you come to GC, that would be sweet. |
ZChi4Life...
I agree that we could potentially lose new members either way http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif...answering the question rudely or ignoring it. I should have clarified myself a little better. I didn't mean for everyone to ignore the post. I just meant for those who are tired of answering the same questions to ignore the post. There are some people on GC who are willing to answer their questions, so I figure let's leave it to those who wouldn't mind. One person might suggest a search be done and that could/should be the end of it. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I'm having trouble saying what I really want to say for fear of starting trouble. I don't want to upset anyone, but it just seems that some members have taken it upon themselves to decide what can and can't be asked and what should and shouldn't be answered. We are all equal members on this message board. We all have the right to ask whatever question we want to. We just need to respect each other. I understand that there are situations where some people ask really ugly questions, but honestly they are few and far between. Come on GreekChatters, we are better than this...where's the Greek Love???!!!LOL http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |

Thanks for clarifying shopgirl! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I understand what you're saying now. Quote:

It not that we don't want to answer questions,it just that many times some of the questions asked can't be properly answered by GC's. Now before everybody gets their pants all twisted, let me explain:
There have be a recent rash of recent post like: what is XYZ/ABC/PBS like at your school? Well people who don't go to school A will answer what they have heard/seen/experienced(even though they don't go to that school) Well somebody who does go to that school who happens to be in the chapter of the sorority being discussed will get on, see all the negative things people are saying about her chapter and get all upset. Next thing you know, there's a flame war that's out of control. I know that there are lots of prospectives out there who have never been exposed to sororites, but I think that if they did a little independed research(like calling the Greek Affairs office of the school(s) they are interested in), then there won't be so many hurt feelings when people come on here posting what is XYZ like at your school |
As a prospective, I TOTALLY agree with shopgirl. There have been some fellow prospectives who have e-mailed Newbie and me, asking us if some members are always telling us to "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON."
I'm sorry BUT...not everything can be found with the Serach. As for my post about Theta--I SEARCHED...I read every single thread that emerged from the Search..that's right, about a hundered (or more?) of them...and the ones about Theta's exclusivity/eliteness etc. were HTTP 404 FORBIDDEN. So I did use the Search button. And personally--I find some of the recent rudeness very disappointing and unwelcoming. As shopgirl so eloquently put it (THANK YOU for your post shopgirl, I'm sure all prospectives like me agree with you!), we all should be equals here. But I don't feel like we are. And now, my homage to David "Significant Sig" Letterman....
TOP 5 QUESTIONS THAT WILL PROBABLY P$$$ OLD POSTERS OFF (ESPECIALLY THIS OLD POSTER) 5. What is rush/open bids/rho chi/any other term that can be found on the lovely Rush FAQ? 4. Does your chapter haze? 3. What is this website all about? The address is www.psychoswithnothingbettertodo.com 2. What is the most popular sorority/fraternity on your campus? AND THE NUMBER ONE QUESTION GUARANTEED TO P$$$ OLD POSTERS OFF: 1. WHAT IS ALPHA BETA GAMMA DELTA LIKE AT YOUR SCHOOL?? (This post is meant in humor and jest, just to clarify http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif) |
I agree, prospectives deserve respect. Remember, when they come here for the first month or so..they probably no virtually NOTHING about greek life. So you can either choose to educate them about how great Greeks are, and how great Greek Life is, or say "Search" and let them think that us Greeks are a bunch of mean people.
Read Bubbles' post again--she is a prospective, and at least she isn't scared away--but it's sad b/c other prospectives have e-mailed her about this animosity. Do you really want prospectives to have a bad image of us just from a messageboard? Many of them have no access to Greeks...don't know any Greeks...only have heard about them...so perhaps a Messageboard is their ONLY way of communicating with Greeks. Do you want them to change their minds about Greek Life after seeing some rude posters? C'mon people--be more respectful of them and say more than "Search." or "I'm sick of these questions." For example, DZRose93 has been EXCELLENT in responding to those types of posts. She has said something like 'I don't think this will be answered here' or 'You should go into Rush with an open mind' etc. She does not just say "Search." Really--please be nicer. It would make us Greeks look a LOT BETTER. We were all once HS students, or prospectives...and most of us knew very little about Greek Life...so put yourself in THEIR SHOES...you and I were just as "clueless" as them once upon a time... We all sit and b*tch about those "What's ABC Sorority like at your school?", but they have sooooooooo many posts on them! So evidently, some people want to talk about it. I don't, but others do.
I posted a question a week or so back about why do women choose to go greek (what they are looking for and such), and it got 3 or 4 responses. So maybe people are not looking to talk about serious issues... |

Totally agree shadokat. The "Most popular" and "Poll Time" threads are already numbering in the 200s. I for one am someone who appreciates the serious issues. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ "Talk doesn't cook rice."--Someone smart Visit Alpha Gamma Delta-Delta Sigma chapter and help some sisters out! |
