Bid Day
After an exceptionally long night, the morning of Bid Day dawned and by mid-afternoon I was confident that I hadn’t been dropped. I spent the day floating on air and awkwardly staring at my Rapunzel classmate. Finally, it was time to meet up with our groups and open our bid cards! On that fateful day I ran out to the independent, smart, hilarious, beautiful, and sometimes perfectly weird sisters of…. KAPPA DELTA Post Bid Day I went on to serve on my chapter’s executive board for two years and I proudly wore my Kappa Delta stole and cords on graduation day. The women from my chapter will be my sisters forever and while we had our fights and our differences, I love them (and will continue to love them) all dearly. I would not trade my greek experience for anything in the world and I’m the first person to encourage women to go through recruitment. Unfortunately, many women who accepted bids during that particular formal recruitment were not so happy. A few weeks later, two chapters were accused of hazing their new members. Both chapters received sanctions from our campus Panhellenic and the university. Some of the women who had been new members of these chapters were allowed to break their bids without punishment and a few of these women were snap bid by other chapters. A few also went through Tiana’s colonization recruitment. Tiana’s colonization effort was mostly successful. The chapter had a very rough start, in part due to campus conditions, but has since reached total and become a fully functioning and accepted chapter on campus. As of today, all chapters on this campus are at total and all chapters made quota during the last formal recruitment. |
Thank you for sharing your story. I think that your analysis of what you did was honest and best for you considering that you were also interested in the colony in addition to the KD Chapter. SIPing is usually not a good move, but in your case of wanting KD or the colony only SIP would give you those options.

Hi sister! Loved your story, and the Kappa Delta ending! Thanks for sharing it.

Congratulations! Kappa Delta is an amazing sorority - one of my favorite elder ladies is a KD, as are her daughters, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, and now great granddaughter! Such a lovely lady!

What a wonderful story! I loved the vivid emotions you painted for us and all of the detail felt so purposeful. I'm really happy you ended up in KD :)
