At my school we only have 3 NPC's and one local for sororities. I am not sure how the numbers are but I think Tri Sigma is the biggest (I think they have between 60-80 sisters) Phi Mu has somewhere between 60-80 sisters but are smaller than Tri Sigma AOPi is the smallest with around 40-50 sisters and the local (my sorority) has about 40 sisters.
As far fraternities I think Kappa Sig is the biggest and Sigma Nu being next but I'm really not sure. I'm not sure how many brothers are in each fraternity but we also haveDelta Upsilon, Theta Chi, Pi Kappa Phi, Kappa Alpha, and TKE. |
Total and ceiling are the same thing. Theoretically, under the quota/total system, chapters can pledge women until they reach quota for that year and/or total for their campus. The problem that exists at USC, and was probably a problem when you were there too, is that 4 times quota is 2 times total rather than total.
In other words, chapters that have retention problems or don't pledge up to quota one year have to pledge and retain quota for the next 3 years in order to be a competitive size. Right now, there are two or three chapters hovering around the 200 mark, 4 chapters b/w 140 and 175 and 2 chapters that are b/w 100 and 115. The hard part for the chapters at 100 and 115 is that they can only fill to 115 or their quota spots if they didn't make quota. This makes things difficult for them financially, during rush and socially. |
Is this anywhere else to, that Junior and Seniors count as free pledges and are not counted towards quota?
Anywho, for sororities its: Kappa Alpha Theta Tri- Delt Sigma Kappa KKG Fraternities: Beta Theta Pi Sigma Chi FIJI (when they were on campus) Theta Chi ohhh and Pike (but there is this big thing on campus with fraternities about them giving anyone a bid who wants one, and taking away from other frats..) |
Rush went really well for everyone this year...most chapters reached quota on pledge classes. Pi Phi, DG and Kappa never have problems making quota. But we are voting in Panhel. to increase quota I believe. All sororities are capped at 70. We are at 72 I believe. We didn't pledge any 3rd, 4th or aboves. I believe the only chapters that have had problems making quota in the past are Sigma Kappa and Chi-O. Which is a shame since the girls I know in these chapters are such rad girls.
Guys don't have totals...lucky them. Pledge classes have been getting rather large. Total for Pi Kappa Anyone (we have that running joke here as well) is around 130 I believe. Delta Sig and Sigma Chi follow in numbers of around 100. TKE, Sig Ep, FIJI, and DU usually have a hard time recruiting with low numbers, but our girls definitely got a pleasant surprise in chapter when about 20 Sig Ep Fall pledges came to serenade! Good for them! We love to see chapters get stronger, just makes the whole system something more to brag about!:D |

My sorority, Alpha Sigma, at UW-Whitewater, has about 50 active members, and the cap is 80.

Re: u are wrong zz-kai
Holy cow, relax......when I was a freshman, Phi Mu was top dog, then they fell off the boat for a few years. I guess they have made a comeback, which is great. I didn't think they were at house total, as a matter of fact, I am pretty sure they weren't at house total last year? Oh well, I'm probably wrong. Seens how they're at total, maybe the cap will be raised. I think they were waiting for Phi Mu to maintain cap several semesters in a row, before they raise it???
PS, how can you be going into Fall 2002 with 50 ladies, when Spring 2002 hasn't even happened yet? Quote:

For Iowa State,
Fraternities, I think between Pikes, Aggers (Alpha Gamma Rho), or SAEs. Lambda Chis used to be one, and nobody knows how TKEs next semester. Sororities, I would say Tri-Delts, DZs, Chi-Os, Pi Phis or Alpha Chis. Hard to tell which one is the biggest, since they always have big numbers and all awesome girls. |

I know at Arizona State sororities are very large. Most sororities usually add on about 50 girls during fall rush. ADPI added 48 girls to our 100 to top out at about 150. Most houses are doing really well out here with numbers.

Re: large chapters
our Greek system is officially Off-Campus now at Santa Clara University, but that dosen't mean we aren't bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.
After this January's Rush it will look like this: Fraternities: Sigma Pi will be the biggest, with 85-90 guys, then Pike with around 85, and then SAE with about 45-50. Sororities: Delta Gamma the biggest (and best IMHO) with 200 beautiful ladies, and Alpha Phi with about 190 beautiful ladies. By the way ladies, if you are reading this, PLEASE colonize the Santa Clara University campus! These sororities are huge, and even with taking around 65 members each winter quarter, over a hundred girls are going to be turned away this year since DZ voted to fold. We need another sorority on campus, and with very good quality girls being turned away, you can capitalize on this! If you want sisters in Northern California, please Contact me for more info about SCU's status. ...United in Brotherhood... |
If you have so many being turned away why is a sorority folding?? I know AXO closed about 6-8 years ago at Santa Clara, not sure why as no one ever tells us why a chapter closes. Now another chapter is folding-HMMMMM-what is going on if there are so many PNM's and chapters are folding?
