It would indeed! But we sold the house (908 Curtis) to Sigma Kappa about 20 years ago. (They've done an extensive, and sorely overdue, renovation.) There's one property in Greektown that may be available -- I haven't been able to figure out if the place is occupied. (For those who know Mizzou: it's the former ZBT house, between FarmHouse and ATO across from ZTA.)

It is now Richmond Place- it is a set of (pretty underwhelming and falling apart) apartments that upperclassmen Greek students usually live in . It NEEDS to be purchased back by a Greek Chapter... there is so little room in Greektown and such need for more housing.
And, I truly wish all of the chapters success... if no one dropped out of recruitment, that would mean a pledge class of 117... which is insane.
It will be hard to justify adding more chapters, though, if some continue to not make quota. There is a problem with girls not "trusting the system" and then a few chapters miss quota.
I think all of the chapters are great, and I am NOT trying to attack any chapters whatsoever, but I am just speaking from a numbers standpoint- its hard to expand when some chapters aren't making quota.

It'll be interesting to see what happens this year. All chapters did match to quota in 2010 and 2011, so perhaps last year was just a function of expansion. It's typical to have lower return rates when it gets to the end of recruitment week when a campus has an expansion right after.

Was total raised last year? It seemed like there were more opportunities than usual for COB. And I agree that PNMs need to give ALL groups a chance.

pbear19 08-06-2013 07:28 PM

It was a very unusual year for COB! Total was raised to average chapter size, 275, after bid day last year. I'm not sure that it's always been adjusted every year after bid day, but I believe that's what they are trying to do going forward. We'll see if there is as much COB this year. If I were a PNM, I wouldn't count on it, and I hope they realize how unusual last year was!

tigerivy 08-13-2013 10:14 AM

...And it poured down rain after the first social yesterday- causing a break in the days schedule. Apparently the PNMs were stranded outside in the rain until Panhel put actives in the basements of their chapters and let the PNMs come inside the foyers of the nearest chapter house!!!
Poor girls!!

How's it going at Mizzou?

Hey, PBear and Tiger Ivy, how is recruitment going?

(Is the Chi Omega house finished or are they still in the ATO house this year? Have you been inside the renovated Sigma Kappa house?)

Would love to hear Mizzou updates as well!

I have one rec girl, an OSS from a major southern city, going through Mizzou. She has no Greek affiliations in her family and has no preconcieved notions about chapters. She decided to rush mid summer and got her recs in after my daughter (Greek at a Pac-12 school) gave her the 411. My rec girl had a blast during round one, even with the rain. She got her second round invites back with a full schedule and with all of her favorites. She's tired but having a blast. She said she has met great friends already! I'll keep you posted!

Yay! I know of one girl from our high school going through. She had a full schedule for Round 2 as well. Let's hope it keeps going well for them both. BTW, I had heard from a parent that they are down to about half of registrants continuing?! I can't believe the numbers would decrease that drastically already.

I don't have ALL the info, but I know some tidbits
- Chi Omega completed their house in time for recruitment. It is new, beautiful and HUGE and is apparently a real attention-grabber
- There are always girls that drop out, but half did not drop. There are still probably around 1500 girls
- They added another day to recruitment this year- so there are two open house days, two skit days, one philanthropy day, one pref day and bid day is on Sunday. Today is the last day of skit day and, from what I have heard, all of the houses are having wonderful skits.
- There have been some heartbreaks, as there are every year... but so far recruitment is moving forward well!

pearlalum 08-15-2013 02:38 PM

I couldn't imagine that half were gone! A couple of hundred is probably typical in a recruitment of that size. Hope the rest of the week goes well!

arrowlady 08-15-2013 02:42 PM

I have 2 rec girls going thru this year. I am hopeful the will have successful recruitments. Our girl that went thru last year did not find her home.

tigerivy 08-15-2013 04:46 PM

I sure hope people write up Mizzou recruitment stories! For such a HUGE recruitment, we don't have a lot of stories on the board!

pbear19 08-16-2013 08:05 AM

I have hardly left the house all week, except to go to my hotel at night. But everything seems to be going well in greek town, from this alumna's perspective. I can say that there are still over 1700 girls in the system, and only a very small handful of the ones who are no longer participating in recruitment were dropped by all houses rather than withdrawing before or during the first couple of days. The few that were dropped by all houses are almost certainly the few that I saw with truly bad grades. I feel sorry they paid the fee to sign up, their grades were so bad.

Anyway, there is lots of excitement here, and I've heard really great things about all the houses when I've asked around or listened to the gossip. :)

Good luck to the PNMs going through!!! Today is a little longer, but tomorrow is preference and then you are HOME! :D
