I can't imagine you can throw a rock ANYWHERE in California without hitting an Alpha Phi. You just need to widen your search there.

Actually, DS, in that part of NorCA (Sierra Nevada foothills is my guess), the pickings ARE going to be slim. It's not like SoCA at all, population is way more spread out and not wall-to-wall people like the LA/Orange County/San Diego metroplex.

I know that this is out of my lane, but, maybe I have some information:
There are Reno area Alumnae chapters for several of the sororities on her "needs recs" list, since I suspect she's rather close geographically to here too. So, maybe checking with them can also be an option. Hope this helps. :-) |
Pet peeve and OP may need to be aware... NO ONE who is a native Califorian says Cali...just like it is not Frisco...
If OP is in Northern California, might look into Santa Clara Valley. Last I knew they were active. It's as close as the South Bay, almost. I live in Texas now, but I qualify as a 4th generation Native Daughter of the Golden West... |

Giving any advice for a group that you do not belong to is never the right thing to do. |
Sorry.....I knew that I shouldn't have said a word. :-(

I have to agree with LaneSig on this one. It's not like misscherrypie suggested she contact an Alumnae Panhellenic in Georgia or New York, Reno, NV is relatively close. Obviously it makes sense to go with the nearest Alumnae Panhellenic to where the OP lives but this wasn't the most unsound advice in the world. I am pretty sure the OP will choose an Alumnae Panhellenic nearest to where she lives and go from there. Good luck!

IMPRESSED! My mother was born in the City and she regarded with disdain anyone who said "Frisco" or wore shorts in the City in the summer. As for contacting individual Alumnae Chapters in Reno, I am with Old_Row on this one. You run the risk of stubbing your own toe, big time, if you approach individual sorority alumnae chapters with "hello, I need a rec". That's why you go through the "mother group" which is the Alumnae Panhellenic. Not to mention that geographically, Reno can be a far piece from an hour from Tahoe on the California side. The Donner Party kind of learned that geography lesson the hard way. Would go for Sacramento area. |
The "where to go to get recs" hierarchy goes like this:
1. Personal connections (friends, family, teachers, people you know in real life.) 2. Alumnae Panhellenic (not as personal, but will get you what you need.) 3. Individual sorority alumnae chapters (they don't exist for rec purposes, so they're kind of a last resort.) |
