AZTheta, I sent you a PM. :-)
No, I completely understand your point. My PM should explain a bit more about the situation. While BSPhi's recruitment process called Rush, its not at all the same as what NPC orgs do to recruit potential new members. I think that we've figured out how to handle things from here and thank everyone for their input. :-) |
One thing you really need to do, and have your other members do the same, is work on your elevator pitch. That's corporate mumbo jumbo, but it's actually a really good technique to learn. Come up with an explanation of who you are, what you do, etc. that can be said in total in the time it takes to ride in an elevator, so about 30 seconds. It takes a lot of practice but it gets better over time. But this is critical for you to find a concise, easily understood, POSITIVE and engaging explanation of your sorority and your chapter.
I think the concern here is that while you seem to love your new sisterhood, you are still seeing it as secondary to the other Greek institutions on campus. Different and distinct is not lesser. By saying you want the girls to go through a more traditional rush so that you are not stepping on anyone's toes, you are saying the girls should do rush in the correct order, and then end up with you as a last result. Or at least after understanding their alternatives. Some people don't need alternatives to make decisions. |

I don't understand what NPC has to do with your group, except the use of Greek letters. Shouldn't you just recruit the same way, say, the French Club or the Intermural Paintball Team does?

As a local sorority unaffiliated with our campus Panhel, we hold at least half our recruitment events during the period in which Panhel runs their recruitment, but we take care to make sure that each specific activity is not conflicting with a Panhel recruitment event. That way, PNMs interested in multiple sororities get a fair chance to check them all out and don't see joining our org as "settling." Of course, at least half our members (rough guesstimate) were never interested in Panhel in the first place, but we don't want them to have to make that decision before recruitment starts. Since we've refined our calendar in this way, our numbers have gone up and we've recruited much more committed women :) |
