I didn't read anything about brown but maybe I am wrong (I have a horrible memory hahah). But I find that really interesting!

AlwaysSAI 07-19-2013 09:33 AM

As soon as I get moved and find my history book I WILL be looking up this answer.

pas 07-22-2013 08:22 AM

Haha. Well the two other choices were white and pink or grey and pink...but I don't recall brown. huh...

AlwaysSAI 07-22-2013 12:42 PM

You know where the brown came from? When I read it, the pink made me think of GPhiB which has brown as one of their colors.

Q: During the mid-1900s, SAI had set up space for sisters to use in a variety of big cities. Where was the first one?

pas 07-23-2013 07:47 AM

Ooo another one that I have no clue about! hahaha. Give us some options! ha

AlwaysSAI 07-23-2013 08:12 AM

I can't...until I dig out my history book. hehe. My stuff is being delivered today.

Okay, I'll try to word the question better.

In the 1930s, Sigma Alpha Iota began securing "National Houses" in area hotels to serve as a space for all local chapters to hold business meetings, musicales, pledge services, initiations, parties, etc. The first one, called Chicago House, was at the Allerton Hotel on Michigan Ave. in Chicago. The second one, New York House, was established at the Tudor Tower on Prospect Place in New York. Where were two other SAI houses established?

I'll guess LA and...Ann Arbor. Ha. I have no clue.

AlwaysSAI 08-01-2013 08:47 AM

You are half correct.

One was in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles and another was at the Miami Biltmore Hotel in Florida.

Q: At the 1917 convention the question was asked: "Is there a national prejudice against Jewesses becoming members of Sigma Alpha Iota?" The response was "No." Yet, from 1918 through 1926 the National Bylaws forbid a different religious group from being elected for any form of membership. What religious group was it?

I'm thinking either atheist or Buddhist. I really have no idea.

AlwaysSAI 08-29-2013 09:29 PM

It was actually Mormons.

I recall in the SAI History book that there was a chapter that had an African American member and the chapter refused to drop her as a member. Am I remembering this right?

When I left my active chapter I gave the sisterhood my History book as a gift (our chapter is super poor and couldn't even afford to buy the History book so I did and donated it). But I wish I had taken notes on it.

Anyways, I am really proud of SAI and how we've handled a lot of things.

I believe you are correct. I will look for it in my history book.
