Hi everyone,

I go to a fairly school on the northeast with a smaller greek life population. Joining a sorority was crucial to me during my college experience and I received a bid from my top choice this past february. However, it was cut short when a week into my new member process the sorority was suspended due to a mistake by one of our new members that basically had nothing to do with the sorority. Now our new member process has been stopped and the sorority is no longer recognized by our campus, we've been told that they won't be back on campus until at least this coming fall but they may never come back. I really don't know what to do because I feel I have been robbed of my chance of joining a sorority. I need any advice you can give??
Thanks in advance!

This is really very confusing. If an organization is just suspended, that does not usually mean that it is no longer recognized. I just don't think anyone can give much valid advice with such little information to go on. Hope you can figure it out with help from Greek advisors & HQ.

OK, I think I get it. The sorority was suspended BY THE SCHOOL, not by the national organization.

kbh009 - whether or not your pledge is broken depends on whether the organization decides to stay on campus in defiance of the school's decision. Talking to someone at your national HQ would be your best bet - I would not talk to anyone at the school unless your NM educator says it's OK.

And sad to say, but at some of the more rabidly PC schools in the Northeast, yes, I CAN see this happening because of something one person did.
