What AOII_Angel says below is correct. We don't take legal action because that proves the authenticity to the document. They're not copyrighted because we we (speaking for my organization here, but assuming for others) don't want to share them to do so. Regardless, I think most organizations have taken the stance that leaked secrets don't devalue their meaning to members. The values we commit to are far more important than the ceremonies that explain them, an the exposure of those values does not alter our commitment to them.

Thank you, Gusteau, for an elegant, polite response. As for the brownie part ... ;)

You don't write like any real lawyer I ever met and it doesn't take a whole lot of brains to realize that posting links to dumb things people have done is just as dumb.

Gus,

Thanks for your response and constructive comments. I see what you are saying now and I am prepared to leave it alone.

It is people like this who irk me. I am sorry I am not writing in prefect style on a message board. I am using an iPhone and i save my brief writing for my paying clients. And I am guessing your fraternity was affected and now your bitter. Gain some manners and professionalism and maybe well talk. And ps using dumb twice like that makes you look like a 6th grade. Good day young lad

Yes, I really appreciated his respect and courtesy. I am new to this site so I was trying to understand protocol. These other people who are writing nasty comments have no level of professionalism or a sense of being courteous. Ty again

I wonder what you had hoped to accomplish with posting about leaked rituals. To piss people off? It's not like individual members can do much of anything other then send angry letters. It is something their national HQ has to handle.

These things pop up every now and then- most of the leaked information is not new to the internet, and not new to wikileaks. If anyone wanted to find the ritual of some specific organization, I'm sure with a little google searching they can find it. Some rituals were even released due to the Freedom of Information Act.

I wouldn't call all rituals intellectual property either. Many organizations have similar rituals due to founding members connections with other organizations.

Your post should have been deleted. Your post wasn't novel, and other than trying to piss people off, it served no purpose.

Thanks for playing, try again!

First off I wasn't trying to piss people off, I was trying to help others and offer legal assistance. I obviously pissed you off enough to write all of this so I guess something was accomplished. Don't post on my thread if I didn't serve any purpose. Geesh make some real Friends outside of Greek chat and maybe you would understand. Thank you for playing and while you are at it learn some
Manners, this isn't a forum for barn animals, was just asking a ? As I am new to site. Wanted to get feedback from
Members before I went to national org. Now I know that it has been dealt with (thanks to a few nice people) I feel better. Lastly since this is obviously your life on this forum why not make others feel welcome to the community like Greeks are taught to do

I will never understand those who argue that their poor grammar or spelling should not be used to judge their education or intelligence. Here at GC it's all we have.

Every time you write -whether on a computer, a phone or with a quill pen - you are presenting yourself. Why in the world would you (deliberately) chose to not present your best self? You would also have the advantage of not having to go back and defend yourself from the observation that your writing style does not meet the standard for a college graduate, never mind a lawyer. We have several lawyers on GC who consistently post well-written posts, even though we are not paying clients. But fear not - I won't point out your many errors. I save editing for paying customers.

"Welcoming" does not equal "not pointing out errors or stupidity". Welcome to the internet, where if you are going to be thin-skinned about criticism you'd best not post.

eta - Aw, look at you playing posting police - complete with the "you have no life outside GC" chestnut. May we look forward to a flounce soon?

SigTausbleedblu, you've admitted you are new to the site. To help you understand some of the responses you are getting, I will say this: You are acting like a first semester 1L gunner who not only raises his hand in every class, but also tries to correct the prof. You are bragging about your LSAT score and scholarship between classes, and yet you don't understand why no one wants to be around you.

Tone it down a bit, hang out with us for a while, get to know the environment you've just jumped into. I'm guessing you weren't "that guy" in law school, so please try not to be "that guy" on GC. :)

The two people he has called out about posting so much? One has been here for ten years hence the high post number. The other has been here for eight months. Her average posting per month is already lower than the OP.

If you have a problem with moderators, why not take it up with them?

And why the hell would you post about a site that leads others to seek out rituals? You could also have just sent a PM to a member of the groups involved.

That was not my question, not a very intelligent answer and not a great welcome to the site, seems like this place is your whole life, 5,000 posts wow! You must feel better about yourself for posting this.

You're really going there?? Do the math, it's about 1.25 posts per day. Hardly spending one's entire life here.

Since I am a intellectual property lawyer, I wanted to inform the community and offer free legal assistance to members of the affected organizations in terms of a demand letter and a filing with the copyright infringement bureau. I guess the links is where I went wrong? Just wanted to follow up with proof of what I was saying but I guess everyone already knows. I was frustrated that I kept getting deleted. Thanks

Nobody needs your help. I'm sure that organizations over 100 years old have their own legal team. But points for trying to backpedal.

Why is he assuming we're all male?

I sure hope he's a better lawyer than that.

On another note...OP, you might not want to act like a douche after revealing your identity. I don't care who you are or what you are, you just don't do that here.

Please see the bold.

So, you would send the US Copyright Office a demand letter in text-speak on behalf of a(n) (inter)national organization?

I'm sure that would go over well.
