Not to be dismissive, but I feel that most of the PNM that are getting all their advice about greek life from Greek Chat, they probably are inadequately prepared for recruitment in general. So PNMs PLEASE read the advice you're given, and don't argue! |
I'm not defending the PNM for dropping out of recruitment or for putting it out there that she believed that she belonged in her top two choices or thinking her situation is "unique". But many of the PNMs that go to Elon are from the northeast or midwest and are not prepared for recruitment compared to their southern counterparts. It's not necessairly their fault, its something that they are just not familiar with. While the school is located in the south, it is heavily populated by students from the northeast.

As a sophomore, keep your options open. Your bottom two could possibly be your ONLY two after a few rounds, so be prepared to decide if you would drop again or if you'd accept a bid. Some groups have their bid lists practically made before recruitment and know which sophomores they'd take. Your choices may be more limited this time around. |
Despite the fact that much of our very sage advice here on GC can be applied to the typical recruitment scenarios, I really think it is great when a GCer with specific knowledge can provide additional info like Maggixi and xylochick have done here.
:) |
Thank you Maggixi and xylochick for all of your help! Also, to everyone else, I didn't mean to sound snotty by saying I had a unique circumstance, I just meant I had trouble navigating greekchat to find something similar to me. Sometimes it can just be hard to search! Lol!
And honestly, like I said before, I regret dropping out of recruitment, because I think joining one of those two sororities would have helped me a lot in adjusting to college life and being far away from home. Maggixi, you were right. I am from the northeast. I'm from Maryland, and no one in my family is greek, so I honestly had no idea what to expect about recommendations, finding the perfect fit where you might least expect it, etc until after the fact. (Not to make an excuse though.) I think though, in the long run, it was a good experience to have to learn from and become a stronger person and to move forward. Sometimes I wish PNMs had more time to think about their choices before and after pref round instead of rushing into one that they might regret later on, as I did. But I'm not trying to make an excuse. I'm going to think long and hard about it, and see what informal recruitment brings in the fall, and go from there. And as I said before, I have wonderful friends in ALL of the groups, that were made long BEFORE recruitment ever started. They're true friends, and always will be, and they're not solely defined as a person and human being for which letters they might wear. That's not why I'm friends with them. |

I guess the answer is relative to where the person who asks this question lives, but is Maryland really considered the "Northeast"? Sorry, they're pretty far down the coast from where I am - we would refer to MD as "Mid-Atlantic". </swerve> |
If it helps, I'm right by the Mason - Dixon line. Compared to NC, it's Northeastern to some. But I've never been around southern recruitment before ever or been educated about it.
|
Also, I forgot to add, I lived in Pennsylvania for a few years because of my dad's job.
|
Please, take my word for it. Maryland is not in the South.
