A) Yes, I'm quite familiar with those passages.
B) Jesus wasn't talking about anything. It was Paul, John and the writer of Hebrews who use the term.
C) None of them said "babe" because none of them spoke English. It was the translators of the King James Version who translated teknion and paidion as "babes."
D) Few if any modern translations use "babes"; they use "infants" instead. There is a very good reason for that -- in contemporary American English "babe" is almost never used to mean "infant" and typically carries a romantic or sexual connotation.
E) Anyone using "babe" or "babes" or {shudder} "babez" in contemporary America should anticipate that most people will read or hear it exactly the way people in this thread have.

I do appreciate PinkWine using quotes that work with both definitions of "babe"; bonus point for working in "carnal".

A) I Corinthians 3:1 -- like I said, Paul.
B) Luke 10:21 -- Not the phrase "babes in Christ," which is the phrase you asked if we had seen.
C) These are both translations, not what Jesus or Paul actually said.
D) While the King James Version is certainly beautiful and has had more influence on the English language than any other single influence except perhaps Shakespeare, it is full of words that no longer mean what they did 400 years ago. One of those words is "babe." While it does still mean "baby," that is without question not it's usual meaning anymore. You can thank Sonny and Cher for that.
E) I repeat, anyone who uses the word in contemporary America, and particularly in social media, who doesn't anticipate that it will be understood in a romantic or sexual sense is pretty naive.

So they're babes in Christ, but not babes for Christ. Got it.

I would bet money that the person that named their group Thetababez wasn't even using it the biblical context. :rolleyes:
