As for what you can do differently, two areas that I can speak to with some authority are your grades and the way you communicate. 1. How were how your grades last time around and how they are now? 2. Check your application/resume. Did you use perfect spelling, punctuation and grammar? I know that some people communicate better in person than in writing, but unless you are just being really sloppy here, your written communication indicates that there's some room for improvement. As others have said, you need to figure out what went "wrong" last time, or what you can do "better" this time around. Better grades, a more polished appearance (no dirty shoes, no heavy perfume, wearing clothing in the similar style as the other women), a stronger resume with activities and leadership positions, a better understanding of the process, stronger confidence, making yourself known to the sorority women - these all matter. The bottom line is to present yourself in the best way you can. Be yourself, but be the best version of you. Good luck. |

hello ladies! i been doing a few things on campus this summer and didn't have time to get on...gotta keep those grades up. :D today i was talking to my soon-to-be SAI sister, charolette, who is also going to rush with me in the fall. she told me about how her older sister has been getting her "well educated" for rush by making her know every bit of info that she can find on each sorority. now i know that some girls will try and find you on facebook and things like that, so is it fair to study up as much as possible or is charolette getting obsessed?
p/s: charolette is on the ball. she can spout off anything you ask her about one or two them so far; national and local history. |

I wouldn't call it obsessed, just doing homework. |
I went through recruitment twice :-) The second time I went in with a really good understanding of what I was seeking in greek life (the qualities I wanted in a house, what I hoped to gain, what I hoped to share, etc.) and that definitely helped me get through the process with a clear(er!) mind. Maybe thinking through those sorts of things would be helpful for you too?
As for studying up-- I totally did. Guilty! Some of it honestly just helped curb my nerves a bit. It made the idea of sorority life seem less foreign and intimidating to me. No harm in flipping though each chapter's website. Good Luck! Relax and Have Fun! |
It's nice to have a knowledge of the philanthropy, colors etc, but if someone came up to me at a rush party and rattled off the 5 founders with maiden and married names - I would write her off as a scary stalker/annoying know-it-all combo and warn my sisters at the first chance I got.

lol thanks to 33girl and greek or geek and everyone else! charolette isn't even close to the knowing all the founders thing just yet. but now we are both studying up a little. i will write again soon!

please make sure you are working on polished conversation skills. I agree with the other poster about if your written verbal skills are a mirror of your verbal communication you could have some issues. The only other advice I would give you is to obtain recommendations to the houses.
Good Luck! |
OK everyone this is the week! Starting wed. My rush story will begin. I'm so nervous. I hope I will find what I'm looking for.

Best of luck SAIgirl009 :)

ok everyone. im sorry that i didn't get back you all sooner but there is the story. wed. was a mandatory meeting where we met our counselors (TT X) and we talked about how things where going to go in the coming week. Thursday was open house and in the first party, i was completely nervous and i kept saying um. lol. but the girl i talked to was a sweet heart. then we went to the next two houses got paired with friends and it was a lot easier to talk to them and their sisters. when i got to the third party, the girl that was my "host" was REALLY rude from the get go. she did not even talk to me. in fact she pushed me off on her little. he didn't even say hello or anything. lol i didn't even get a chance to mess up! XD and finally the last party i met a girl that i rushed with last year that got her first choice. lovely girl, she was funny too. then the second night came and it was about philanthropy. the 1st house was better this time (it was was the same order form the night before) and i really had a blast. we maid a little craft for their charity. then the 2nd house showed us a movie about their philanthropy and a scrapbook of all their events from last hear. on the way to the 3nd house, i started to have an asthma attack (due to all the walking and the heat). when we got the the 3nd house the girl i was paired with saw how breathless i was and found a place for us to sit and even got me some water afterwards. she knew what i was going through (said she also had asthma) and for the rest of the party we talk about how she got her bid in the spring and about how she personally loved the philanthropy. now i will say i know alot of people in this house and i felt very at home there, even before i befriended some of the sisters; along with the 2nd house. when i got to the 4th house, i got the same girl as the night before (the one that blew me off) and AGAIN she left me. so i was with the president for the rest of the time. now even though the president was a sweet girl, the rudeness of the other had completely turned me off from the house. and finally the 5th house was the same as the 3nd, i love them as well. later i had to rate the houses in order of who i liked the most. i did as fallows: 3nd, 5th, 1st, 2nd, and finally 4th.
the next night the 4t house was dropped and i had houses 1, 3, 5, and 2. this night was skit night. and they where all great but end the end i liked 3 and 5 the most. so i ranked my top two and went back to my room. well that morning i got a knock on my door. the pi chi's (TT X) came to tell me that i was cut. i kept a good poker face until they left, then i cried. i felt so heartbroken. like i didn't belong anywhere. two days later, was bid day and i went to watch my friend Charlotte and my other friends run to their new sisters. i felt that even though i didn't get my happy ending, i should support my friends. this morning i ran into the girl from house 3 that sat with me during the 2nd night when i had my asthma attack. she and her big told me that they where bummed that they didn't get me and that they wanted to get to know me better. so in the end, i didn't get the result i wanted but i met new friends and i have a very STRONG feeling that the spring will be my time. i will keep in touch. |

I'm sorry this didn't work out the way you had hoped. I'm thinking that in an NPC system this small, that in all likelihood, your NPC ship has sailed. Keep working with your colony. Enjoy that experience to the fullest. You can still be friends with any NPC women you meet without joining their chapter. Good luck. |
