Absolutely. At my school, I have run 3 presidential campaigns. Won the last two of them. Was just hired to run another one this semester. We have political parties, and previous campaigns (not even releasing figures for this camapign, never know who is on GC) we spent about $6,000 on the election. Its hard, but some FUN stuff. Cool part, I get paid to do this. 15 - 20% of our total budget (budget comes from fundraising). The connections are cool too.

The top 5 execs on our student board pull in 24,000...that's can. mind you, but is still over 10,000 on what the average undergrad requires for a full yr. of school.

Our Student Body leaders, known as the Student Union, get no compensation.

This actually came up as a big topic a couple of weeks ago, and there was a suggestion that some compensation should be offered (even something like giving class credit for doing it). However, even the current members of the Union refused ideas of monetary compensation, saying that it would set up a system where people ran for the positions purely for cash reasons.
