Update (in case anyone was curious): The girl I was referring to ended up approaching our Standards Board and requested to re-pledge, and her request was approved by the chapter. And they lived happily ever after? :)

Good for her. Sounds like everything worked out for the best. Thanks for the update.

Is this standard procedure across the NPC that a pledge who drops can come back in a following semester in this manner? Do they affect quota in that semester?

Yup, even if they've since gone over total, which seems like a loophole to me.

p. 31:
A woman who has accepted a bid either through primary or COB recruitment and who has had her pledge broken by an NPC fraternity or has broken her pledge, may be repledged by the same NPC fraternity chapter on the campus at any time before the beginning of the next year’s primary membership recruitment period, even if the chapter is over total.

To be determined?

The woman is bound to her bid for one full year whether or not she goes through with the new member program. She can petition to be reinstated up to the day before that year is up. It's up to the chapter to decide whether or not the honor the bid. If the NM left on bad terms, it is unlikely that the chapter would take her back. It has nothing to do with quota...remember, quota is only the number of women you are allowed to take during formal recruitment. You are thinking about Chapter Total. As WhiteRose posted, it doesn't matter if you are over total. The woman already has a bid. The chapter CAN go over total if they wish to honor her request.

You can take women up to quota in informal recruitment if you don't make quota in formal.

Right, but you are just meeting your quota from recruitment AND you can also take above quota if you are below total. This situation would be allowed regardless of meeting previous quota or total numbers.

Exactly. It would be a total douchecanoe move to say "well, you can't repledge ABC because they're over total, but you're stills stuck to them for another semester."

It sounds like this was more a $$$ clusterfuck than anything emotional or RM esque. If there are any issues with that on the sorority side, make sure they get resolved! :) Good to see that it seems everything worked out.

I included the question mark because I graduated in spring (and went through alumnae initiation, etc) so I'm not sure how her readjustment back into the chapter will be. While her request was approved overall, I know there are a few members with mixed feelings about her re-joining, but hopefully it should end up ok once she gets initiated and what not.

Thanks! RM-esque? Still not 100% versed on GC terms :) I think it will turn out fine, too!

SWTXBelle 09-14-2012 05:42 AM

RM = risk management.

33girl 09-14-2012 09:08 AM

In other words her nickname wasn't "Li'l Lindsay Lohan" or anything like that - she wasn't engaging in behavior that would put the chapter in jeopardy.
