OMG at the pledge class mommy! SMH. You know freshmen are people, too. Some of them even are as mature as juniors and seniors. Do it or don't do it, but don't go into it expecting that everyone in your pledge class will need to come to you, the two year older and wiser woman for advice. My class had women of all age groups, and you'd have never known it. We didn't focus on it. One of my best friends my freshman year was an alum in grad school that I am friends with to this day. Also, I was always really good friends with at least two or three of the new members from each pledge class. I wasn't their mentor or big sister; I was just their friend. This included my senior year with a freshman. You'd miss out on great friendships if age is a limiting factor.

Rachiexo,
Here is my advice to you. Tell your sorority friends (did you loose touch?) that you're interested in going Greek. Don't put them on the spot and ask them if you have a chance. They probably don't know and might not be truthful with you. You having a chance could depend on a 100 different things-grades, do they take juniors, competitiveness of the Greek System, do you have a good/bad reputation, did you steal a boyfriend, are you involved on campus, do you party to much and are you one of those girls? just to name a few. At some schools a lot of juniors go through at others no. It really just depends Some times you have to take risks. You have nothing to loose. Go through the process but make sure you are prepared. Also, as a junior you need to keep an open mind. That sorority you want may not want you but another one might. |

It looks like you go to a school with a small greek system. I doubt being a junior would be a death sentence. That, however, does not mean that you would get a bid. There is always a risk of not getting a bid when going through recruitment, but there is a 0% chance if you don't.

Interesting that she goes to Bloomsburg, the same school as another famous troll. Such a small world!

Use Bloomsburg for the search term. :)

Membership selection is confidential information, but I will say to you that there have been situations where a PNM has friends in a group who want her while there may be other members who don't want the PNM. It sometimes goes the way of the ones who want the PNM. It sometimes goes the way of the ones who don't want the PNM. To me, sorority membership is not worth screwing up a friendship over. |

What do you mean by this? Are you saying that your school doesn't allow freshman to go through recruitment, but that since you are a junior, you are eligible? Nobody can tell you if you're more likely to get a bid during COB/informal recruitment. It varies from campus to campus and chapter to chapter. Quote:
Second, you don't need to be Greek to "party" or be part of something. You seem to have an idealized view of membership. It's not all parties and playtime; there is a "business" aspect to membership (formal meetings, dues, service/philanthropy, rituals, etc.). And no, simply being Greek doesn't mean that someone's life is "amazing". People are still people and still have the same life problems and challenges they had before going Greek. |
