Stop backpedaling. You said what you meant. KSigRC is not the only person who interpreted it as you intended.

My problem is that I think there are more incidents like this than people realize in the military. They are dealt with, consequences are given, and people move on, part of what makes me so angry is the constant press coverage and the fake outrage and lip service from all the bureaucrats. Investigate, deal with it, and move on.

You do not make sense. The discovery and investigation is going on now. What's your point? This was just released to the media the other day.

Save your lectures for somebody who cares.

You care which is why you feel some kind of way about it.

Guess what, the US and Afghan government is negotiating a peace deal. Long after the US leave Afghanistan, the Taliban will still be there.

Panetta also said the incident could endanger the outlook for peace talks, although the Obama administration and the Taliban each voiced readiness Thursday to try peace talks while pledging to carry on the military conflict until their rival objectives are met. The separate statements by senior American and Taliban officials illustrated the improved environment for Afghan reconciliation efforts as well as the daunting task ahead.

It's not about PC, what they did is wrong and illegal. It's really that simple.

And as you point out, what they did can endanger the troops still there and could be detrimental to our national interests.

One more aspect of this that folks might also consider: It is probably pretty likely that at least some of the Marines involved are suffering from PTSD. I have no idea what unit they are with or how long that unit has been in theater, but there is a good chance these kids have been through several rounds of combat deployments.

This is NOT excusing what they did at all. This is clearly a case of failed leadership (particuarly on the part of the NCO's involved with that unit). I have no doubt these Marines (and their immediate chain of command) will be facing some serious consequences. However, there is a good chance some of these guys were dealing with some serious issues going into this situation.

It may be PTSD but it is definitely an example of stupid things people do when they are in positions of power with and without the stress.
