Oh wow! I am so proud! Look at how beautiful these young ladies are! They must also be pretty smart because I'm willing to bet that anyone who is in the Big Blue family--has gotta' be pretty darn smart! Congrats to my new Phi Mu (University of Kentucky) sisters! So proud!

I dont know, but a good question. That photo looks as if it was taken around sorority circle somewhere, as most of those houses have a similar structure.

In fact that may be the old Sigma Kappa house, which housed Alpha Xi Delta before it closed.

Paging TSteven....:)

i believe that it was stated previously that two of the sororities had graciously volunteered their houses for the phi mu colonization process.

I think that the old Alpha Xi Delta/ Sigma Kappa House is now property of Delta Sigma Phi. Phi Delt is in the Old ZTA house.

Oops! I need to do a drive by then. The landscaping is different than the last time I was down there and it threw me off!

I knew that abotu Phi Delt in the old ZTA/Sigma Kappa House (SK lived here before Phi Delt). I didnt know Delta Sigma Phi moved in to the old AZD/Sigma Kappa House. Cool!

My understanding is that when the sororities presented and/or received their info package on NPC expansion at UK, they were made aware that there would not be university housing available at the time of their colonization. However, UK - if asked - would help in securing temporary housing - i.e. floor on a dorm if possible - while the chapter searched for housing.

Having said that, UK has land available for lease by the sororities and fraternities which they may build on it if they want. In some cases, there might already be a physical structure on the land. As such, the house would either be torn down and a new house built. Or the current structure would be expanded / upgraded as necessary. Also, UK is willing to work with each chapter’s housing corporation in building new houses by making the land available at a very low rate, use of university contracts to help keep overall costs down, and work with the City of Lexington on zoning issues etc.

Again, all of this was part of the presentation/info package. So Phi Mu - and Alpha Phi before them - knew this.

All of this to say that the basic idea is that if there wasn't any house available, then any newly built or refurbished house should at least be comparable (i.e. similar in size and amenities) to current NPC chapter houses. How and what each chapter decides to do is up to their housing corporation.

:)

Are members living in the house now? Recruitment starts this Saturday and wondering if they would be holding their events at their new house?

Yes. The sisters moved in last weekend. The Phi Mu Fraternity Facebook page has a picture. There is more information and pictures on the Phi Mu at the University of Kentucky Facebook page.
