Many, many years ago, there was a Sassy Magazine journalist who actually did sit in on MS. I suspect it was a local, but they were definitely part of a formal rush.
|
i believe that a few years back a young woman on the university of tennessee student newspaper staff went thru formal recruitment in order to create a story on formal recruitment.

I wonder which chapter got this girl? I would have been pissed!

First thing that popped in my head when reading this title: Jen K

Bahaha-Jen K!

I like that her only two sources are people who are not Greek- herself, and someone who dropped out during the new member period. Very well rounded in getting all perspectives covered.
|
DubaiSis, I recommend a book called "Girls on the Verge: Debutante Dips, Drive-bys and Other Initiations" by Vendela Vida. In one of the chapters she went "undercover" to rush at UCLA and went so far as receiving a bid.
I don't approve of her having done that, but it's actually well written and she didn't appear to have an axe to grind with the greek system. |

There was also the book "Pledged" that went beyond just Formal Recruitment. I read it so long ago I don't remember much except it talked about a few sororities (unnamed of course) at a specific campus.

Oh good grief! Shades of Jen K, indeed! This story has been done to death already and in a far more interesting manner, to boot.
Any woman who participated in rush could have written this article. "It was stressful! It was hot! We were crowded! They made us line up to go into the houses! I talked to a bunch of women! I had to dress up!" I feel sympathy for the sorority who gave her a bid thinking that she would be a sister, but with the level of brain power displayed by the writer, I'm sure they're better off without her. |

There are a couple of threads here on GC about that book. |
