You would have gotten me to get a mani/pedi over my dead no-longer-recruiting body, particularly if I had to pay for it. Dream houses are one thing, required services are another.

Yes. And I agree with adding some classical in. We have practice rooms in my dorm but they are nowhere near soundproofed (pretty sure I've gotten complaints from the second level above... oops...), so soundproofing is a wonderful must.


If we were allowed houses, all of this would definitely be the dream. Especially having a kitchen just for the house to bake in. So many cookies, cupcakes, and cakes would appear. And homemade candy. And soups and calzones. My friends spoke of making boiled peanuts last year so why not!

Maybe a game room of sorts. My friends and I rediscovered our love of board games, cards, light-sabers, and nerf guns during our freshman year. Throw in a good TV with some awesome gaming systems and all that we searched for will have been found. :D And another area for another TV for actual viewing... shows like Big Bang Theory will be at the top of the list!

I've never had a professional mani or pedi, just because I read that one time Paula Abdul went to get her nails done and ended up with a FUNGUS. If it can happen to Paula Abdul, it can happen to me.

Some brands of polish are "heavier" than others. There are also polishes that are sheer. Those might be a little more comfy for you.

I agree Drole!! I love having my toes painted but I can't stand having polish on my nails. I think it's from when I played the violin and would destroy any manicure within an hour of practicing...that and taking organic chem, where you wash all of the glassware with acetone (nail polish remover essentially!).

My dream house: Pool+Jacuzzi, beautiful giant bathrooms, and huge closets!

I had a pedi once because boyfriend's wife wanted someone to go with. I went, and it was weird having someone mess with my feet, just... ick, uncomfortable.

I just tend not to put any on anymore, but it's one of the reasons I stopped in high school. Of course I remember wearing like.. chrome and glitter polish so it's not like I was putting on a light top coat either.
I played the piano so that might have been part of it, i don't know if it was all in my head or not, but my hands just feel weird with polish on. And yeah organic chem was a wash, I think I'd stopped by college anyway.

That's for the exterior.....though there are many examples of half-Tudor and Georgian revival that I love, too.

The updated interior would include: double rooms with a shared bath. Study rooms on each sleeping floor. Storage rooms (so members don't have to haul everything out during the summer). A smallish formal living room (a parlor) and two informals (connected; perhaps a L-shaped). A front porch. A side or back porch, opening off the informal and/or dining room. Adequate wiring for all appliances, good HVAC, wireless Internet.

I would literally DIE without my own room with a bed! I studied sitting in bed with the TV on. A sleeping porch with study rooms would never have fit the bill for me. Not to mention, what do you do about alarm clocks? :eek:

I had a couple of chapter visits to houses with sleeping porches.

Often there were two: a warm dorm and a cold dorm. People had alarm clocks next to their beds -- it was a shared porch, but they had their own beds. They got accustomed to listening for their own clocks, blocking out the others. The individual study rooms (with dressers, closets, desks) sometimes had lounge chairs or daybeds.

My chapter house was built in 1964. We had 4-person rooms with built-in closets/storage cubbies/dressers. There were 4 desks and 4 twin beds per room (no bunks).....and just one 4-outlet receptacle in the middle of the floor!! Even in the early 70's that was totally inadequate.

I should have clarified. I meant the cosmetologist would be available for a couple of days just prior to recruitment (as opposed to the normal once-a-week / twice-a-month / whatever schedule) so that sisters who chose to have a professional manicure, pedicure, or both - with or without polish - could get one. Same for sisters who wanted a haircut, wanted their eyebrows done, whatever.

There have been threads in the recruitment forums about how some chapters have crazy strict rules for their sisters about outfits, hair, makeup, etc. My chapter was more toward the lenient end (although there was the year that our rush chair demanded we buy brand-new name-brand Keds for round 1, and then whined afterwards because her feet hurt :rolleyes: ) - our outfits had to be approved, but as far as hair and makeup went, as long as you didn't look like (a) you'd just rolled out of bed or (b) you should be working a corner, we could do pretty much whatever we wanted.

As for the money issue, this is a dream sorority house, so sisters don't have to pay - the money comes out of thin air. ;)

An extra room with mirrors, hardwood floors and a music system to practice for dances (ie greek week, anchor splash, derby days etc)
