We have an "older-than-typical" new member. I met her during recruitment & wouldn't have known that she was older if she hadn't mentioned it. Give it a shot & don't be preoccupied with your age, it's possible that no one will think of it if you don't say anything.

Ok, I've got to say it.
If a 25 year old rushed at my school or rushed at a competitive rush like the SEC, Iam sorry, but they'd find it very difficult if not impossible to receive a bid. Competetive rushes are hard. And often they are not fair. But they do cater to and look for 18-19 year old rushees. It does depend on the school and how competitive their rushes are. Just be smart about it and know your campus-- if you are 25 and rushing at LSU--its going to be very very very hard. More relaxed campuses would not be. |
I'm not in your area, and I've been alum for a few years, but there was a woman in my chapter at that time who was 25. There was also an active member in one of the fraternities older than her.
Like some of the others mentioned, it would depend on how competitive rush is at your school. You'll never know unless you try, though! |
Get off the Broom Sticks about age!:)
I was 24 when I started my local and while I am know a LXA I am still going strong in support of My Internatioanal and My Chapter! When you go to school right out of High School, you are young and dumb, and you learn from those that have been there and can teach you what it is all about. Why not someone who is maturer who can shed a little better light on the situation?;) Age designation sucks as When I pledged a local before it became a National I was older then all of them! As the young Bull said about the young female Bulls down below, lets go get one, and the Old Bull said why dont we walk down and get all of them!;) |
Tom,
All I am saying is you have to know your own campus. A 25 year old sorority PNM at USC would be shut out. Its sad but true. For fraternities, I think less focus is on age, older guys rushing would probably find a home. Not so for women on campuses with very competitive rushes. :) Amy |
Amy, I understand where you are coming from. It would be a challenge. I think some chapters are set on what they look for and if you don't fit it, you are outta there.
Maybe a chapter is looking for some leadership? Maybe they can see age/maturity as a good quality in a PNM. It all depends on the school. Tom, fraternities are very different regarding that kind of situation. Good Luck. |
I just initiated a 32 year old transfer student into our fraternity. He was quite excellent about making his age not an issue, however, he would quite often talk about his 7 year old daughter at home... :)

There is no "rushing" for alumnae initiation. |
If you're seeking an NPHC you'll need to go to the group's national website for any membership info.
