I hope Splash has a reason to say that and isn't just saying that to share that she has a friend in that alumnae chapter. It takes nothing to know whether someone is a perp if you know someone from that chapter.

Has Splash ever publicly said her affiliation?

If DZTurtle is legit, all it would take is a DZ checking the member database to confirm. Since she was initiated just a month ago, she may or may not be in there.

I know my org. often recognizes AI-ed women in our Quarterly publication.

Wow, I didn't know that saying...

meant that I was trying to "be in a position to act like an expert on the membership selection and quota policies of chapters there."

Pretty sure pointing out that it's NOT mandatory, which it isn't, and that she would be going in with a disadvantage is pretty solid advice.

Also while I may not have been greek there, though I've only been gone from Oxford 4 years so the across the country thing doesn't really matter, I have TONS of Greek friends and do have some knowledge of the college that I attended. I just had brunch with my girlfriend who is a Chi O from there this morning.

As for the "alleged" thing I'm confused as to why there is a question. Yes, I'm a recent Alumna Initiate and very proud of the fact. I think it's quite an honor to be given and love DZ! I know that there are some crazies out there and on here, but I've been quite honest and as transparent as an online forum will allow.

Btw, yes I am in the database. I'm on Metro and Surfing Sisters. I now have my badge, which is gorgeous and the nicest one I could get:), and am a full fledged member.

If you know someone in my alum chapter then PLEASE ask them!!! Two were at my initiation and another 5 surprised me at a local restaurant afterwards. I have nothing to hide. I've clearly said my first name so please look at the Denver Delta Zeta Alumni website and you will see pictures of me.

I am a DG.
My best friend is a member of Rho, which is a collegiate chapter. My friend does not know of a recent alumnae initiate, who was initiated by the collegiate chapter (which I believe is what she stated).
I should not have posted without being sure, but what's done is done.

Here's the point you're missing. You weren't Greek at Ole Miss or any other university for that matter. You are not currently active there. You have not and will not be sitting in on MS sessions there. Anything you write here about that is hearsay. You don't know it.

Your friend does not know of or there wasn't one? Big difference.

Not to mention that ladybug12 said that upperclassman quota means it's not AS HARD AS IT USED TO BE before upperclassman quota. She didn't say it is easy, she just said that it is easier. DZTurtle jumped in to object to that, when it seems that even a casual observer would consider it true.

Titchou 06-27-2011 11:04 AM

And, BTW, NO quota is mandatory! They are all optional. Now, they may get in trouble with their national if they purposely don't pledge quota or freshman quota, though not so much so with upperclass quota. But it is always optional for all concerned.

Exactly. Heck, even if a group looks at the rushee pool and says "I don't want any of these hobags in my sorority!" (LOL) they don't have to take any of them. Panhel cannot force them to do so, and even their national can't (although as Titchou very correctly stated, they will have some 'splainin to do).

I would hope a rushee pool would never be that horrid, but we are talking about things that are possible - not probable, normal or common.

Here is the point you're missing. The advice I gave was general information that anyone would give. I in no way said anything that seemed like I was giving any insider info on member selection. I know my univerisities culture and know that things don't change that quickly. The upperclass quota is pretty dang new so while ladybug only said it wasn't as hard I find that to be misleading. To be quite honest wouldn't anything anyone said on here, outside of current greek women at Ole Miss, be considered hearsay?

So do you think that they keep all the indepent students in cages except for class and then there is a magical barrier keeping the greek students away? Do you think that the greek students can smell our independence and ran away screaming if we got too close? People talk and the attitudes are made very clear.

I'm not Jewish nor been in a synagogue for that matter. Does that mean that if someone askes me what kosher is then I can't give a general answer? No I've never taken kosher, but I have a good idea and can give general information.

Splash, I don't know who your bestie is but apparently she wasn't at initiation. There were 7 other girls who had gone through COB with me and I was apparently NOT a college student nor anyone that most of the women there knew so she couldn't have been there. I do know that if she is REALLY that concerned with this information it would take a very little amount of effort to ask ANYONE in the alumni chapter about the brand new AI that graduated from Ole Miss. I saw 2 of them last night. They're pretty clear on who I am. You can also tell your friend to just come to book club in a few weeks. It's going to be at my apartment this time and we're reading "The Girl with No Shadow." Can I be anymore clear?

I stand behind my advice. OP is going in with a disadvantage. The best thing to do is be prepared, read the forums, and put your best foot forward.

Ummm, hold up. What on earth does COB have to do with AI? I'm not sure what you're referring to, but the only time COB and AI would have ANY connection is if a senior woman received an open bid, for some reason was never able to pledge as a collegian, stayed in touch with the chapter, and then AIed after she graduated. Since you AIed with a group that doesn't have a chapter at your alma mater, this is impossible.

You may be getting your terminology wrong since you're relatively new, but that's something you need to really watch on an internet forum as it WILL cause people to question you.

DZTurtle11 06-27-2011 01:12 PM

Ok the wording came out weird now that I read that sentence :o There were 7 girls who had gone through COB and were initiating at the same time I was initiating. I was trying to point out that I wasn't alone when I was initiated ;)

FSUZeta 06-27-2011 03:15 PM

DZTurtle11 is saying that she was initiated as an Alumnae Initiate at the same time that 7 collegiate members who had joined thru COB activities were initiated. I know of several NPC sororities who do this. The AI usually has never had contact with the collegiate chapter prior to her initiation, and the collegiate members may not know anything about a "grownup" woman being initiated prior to the ceremony. It sounds incredible that they would not be aware of this, but I have seen (or heard) of it happening.

In ZTA, and it appears this holds true for DZ as well, the alumna initiate is considered an alumna member of whatever collegiate chapter initiates her, hence why DZTurtle11 says she is a member of Rho chapter.
