Yep, she's a dumbass not because she took my post too literally but because she tried to be a smartass.

There have been threads over the years in which people talked about what they like or dislike about their org's colors and symbols. This thread is nothing new.

Arrows? Wine and silver blue, and wine carnations? I love them!

Though I can see the difficulty for some groups. My son prefers not to wear red and purple per se but, say, gray shirts with maybe his crest in the corner or on the back. I've heard Betas and Lambda Chis say the same and I get it. With Auburn shirts, I prefer not to wear a blinding orange and blue shirt but rather, gray or natural with orange and blue accents somewhere else.

I love the wine & blue, and arrows, but I'm not fond of the angel. Angel merchandise tends to either look kitschy, childish, or porn-y.

I'm kind of envious of Kappas, because I find keys/fleur-de-lis everywhere. But I think Pi Phi colors are pretty striking together, and unique.

Yeah - I love my GLO's colors & symbols, but when it comes to my school's colors, that's a different story. (I still refuse to buy the pink crap they sell now, though. I may not look good in gold, but school merchandise should not come in "regular" and pink "girl" versions. Gross.)

I remember kind of being turned off by our colors and symbols during my COB open house, actually, although thankfully, I didn't let such superficial thing keep me away from what turned out to be a truly wonderful sisterhood.

Anyone else feel the same way?

No.

Bronze, pink and blue translate in the real world to yellow, pink and blue. That has a baby shower feel to me so I rarely ever wear our colors. Anchors are easy to find and very popular all the time so that doesn't seem outdated. I don't think they wore colors and symbols back when we all were founded like we do today so that wasn't on the founders' minds. And I too like the values the colors stand for...but that wasn't why I pledged.

So yes, I do sometimes wish that we had colors that we could wear all together, but I'm fine with what I have. It's not like the colors ever turned me away or anything and I happily wear each color individually. :D

I bet the Red Hat Society can help you out. http://www.redhatsociety.com/index.aspx

OMG yes. Granted, my school's colors are purple/white (or is it silver?) but then they make stuff in pink, green, orange, all sorts of other stuff. I can understand neutrals (greys, black/white, even earth tones) but sheesh.

I do have a long sleeved t-shirt in navy though, but that was given to me *shrug*

I love my sorority's colors--blue and white, and black and red. My high school was blue and white, and so the carry over was easy. Then Glasgow's colors include blues too, so yes, very partial.

The only problem is finding non-terrifying versions of our mascot, the Siamese Cat. It has become a running pledge class tradition to give an "ugly cat gift"...but the ease at which these are found is somewhat concerning.

Ha ha ha, are you my sister who coined the motto "Down With Dot" on Facebook? I explained to her that a lot of adopting an official mascot was to give ASA a more cohesive identity - in the same way that you see keys and think of Kappa. Personally though, I'm a bigger fan of the Phoenix than Dot or Raggedy Ann. I guess because it's so not-cutesy.

As far as our colors, jewels, flowers, and symbols (different from the mascot) I dig them all, although I know there are some sisters out there who hate red because they look crappy in it.

IrishLake 06-19-2011 01:32 PM

Same. Love our colors, love our symbols. I'm always happy to have a big pot of black and gold pansies on my front porch every summer, and I'm tickled pink anytime I find something with a kite on it.

This is exactly how I feel. I like our symbols, colors, etc., but sorry I'm not gonna wear something with Teddy bears on it.

My wedding colors are a variation of our colors (didn't pick them because of my sorority, they just look good together! )

SWTXBelle 06-19-2011 01:46 PM

I should say I love, love, LOVE our crescent - as long as it's waxing!

Heh. Our national mascot can be really creepy to some people, so I hear you there! (I'm okay with it, although my chapter never used it much).

I've always loved Pi Phi's colors and also Alpha Phi's, incidentally, although I'm a member of neither org. I think they go really well together. I also think ASA's phoenix just looks awesome--as does Phi Sig's sphinx--and that AXO's lyre is really pretty. Also, *all* the badges are gorgeous.

Senusret I 06-19-2011 02:23 PM

I really like black and gold together in 90 percent of the ways I have seen it put together.

On casual paraphernalia, it doesn't matter much. But recently the powers that be have been pushing us to purchase gold blazers with our fraternal design on it. I don't like it.

psusue 06-19-2011 02:32 PM

I LOVE purple and white. I seriously own 5x as many purple shirts as I did before I was an active and it's wonderful. Purple looks great on my skin tone though, in any shade (although a jewel tone would look good on anyone). I also love sailboats and the symbolism behind them. Next jewelry purchase will likely be a small sailboat necklace.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the skull and crossbones. Again, love the symbolism of it, but I doubt you'll ever catch me wearing it unless it's on a tshirt (which our recruitment shirts this year are set to). But I won't do a necklace or anything like that. Screams punk rock/goth to me.
