It's a time-honored family tradition here.

But you're from the Midwest.

We Southerners are held to a higher standard.

/yay for not wearing white after labor day

Did anyone else notice how jhawk's posting style completely changed in that last post? Like he went from sounding like a dumb horny 19 year old to a condescending 39 year old?

Look, just because we're corn-fed, down-home, farming folk doesn't mean we're dumb.

It just means we only own one pair of shoes, and since summer is barefoot season, winter must be shoes season. Who cares if they're white!

Hijacking...

Have you read the Scumble River Mystery series? They're by Denise Swanson, who is an ASA from Coal City, IL...and if you ever miss small town Illinois, it's like taking a trip back home. Plus, the main character is a (school) psychologist besides being a plus-sized middle age Nancy Drew.

You're never too old to rush! Give it a try, and see what happens. It might be great, and you'll regret it if you don't!

This may be true at your tiny four sorority college, but you should avoid making generalizations like this. Is it your goal today to post to every GC thread created in the last six months?

OP, your age may be a significant detriment in recruitment. It all depends on the culture of your school. Try to do some research in advance to see what your campus is like beforehand. Even if age and class standing are an issue there, you can still go through recruitment for the fun of it and to meet people. However, if not getting a bid would be a crushing blow to your psyche, it's probably better not to put yourself through it if you're at a campus where you're not likely to receive a bid due to your age. Also, be honest with yourself. At 23, will you really be able to stand hanging out with a bunch of 18 year old freshmen for more than five minutes?

Pretty much if everyone in your pledge class is an 18 year old freshman, you won't get a bid anyway.

I don't think that's always the case. Even at schools where things aren't so competitive, I would think the majority of any pledge class would be freshmen.

No, not always. And often if it is, it's just barely a majority (like, 55%).

I have not, but I'm going to wait until I leave Illinois until I do read them.

In good news, my program is eliminating the thesis option and allowing people who have been working on theirs to either finish them or switch to the comp exam. So... comp exam HERE I COME! :D
