I agree with some other posters, it doesn't hurt to try both fall informal and spring formal. In my pledge class there were two second semester sophmores that had both rushed previously and been dropped/de-pledged another sorority. There are no steadfast rules that say XYZ will not take a second semester sophmore, but they probably will remember who you are to some degree.
