I was a history major in undergrad with an English minor and both helped me tremendously in law school. One thing I would add is not to select a law school based solely on a brochure - go visit and sit in on classes, meet students, etc. Unlike undergraduate school, it's not cute to transfer out of law school into another one so make sure it is a good match for you - are the professors relaxed or Socratic (sp??) in their teaching approach - what is the campus like - is it urban or rural - will you have a life outside of school?

Another aspect of choosing a law school is whether the law school is considered to be regional or national. If you want to stay in the area where you are going to law school then it is okay to go to a regional school. If you want to work somewhere else then it is important that your law school is nationally recognized. Whether your school is national or regional doesn't have as much to do with it's ranking as it does with the alumni base (and where they practice) and who recruits from the school. If you go into the career services office of any law school you will be able to look at the list of who recruits on campus and compare it to other schools you visit.

Law School

I completed my BA in Music and I'm finishing up a minor in Political Science this December. I'm interested in going into Entertainment Law with an emphasis in Music Copyrights, as well as Radio, Television, and Film. I have some connections in the West Coast and among my options I am considering UCLA and USC. Other options include SMU, UT Austin, Baylor, U of H, and Thomas E. Cooly in Lansing Michigan. I plan on going to Law School in the Fall of 03. Best Wishes To All, Mystic Cat32

Corporate Communication major here.. I took it because it's what I enjoy. I've heard that "well-rounded" philosophy as well.

I'll be getting my BA in Spr of 2003... It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to start looking at that LSAT stuff.

Hope to get into Oklahoma University's Law program.

I have a question for those of you who are interested in law school: what are you majoring in and (if you feel like it) why? Were you encouraged to major in a certain area by an advisor? Did you just pick something you liked? Did you pick something that you think will prepare you for law school?
I'm majoring in Political Science, emphasis on Law and Society. I'm minoring in International Relations. Haven't actually gone to classes yet (next month) but I bet I'll really enjoy them! My first Poly Sci class is on the politics of underdeveloped nations.

I picked this major mainly because so many lawyers actually are poly sci majors... and I think this really would benefit my career more than a random major that's not so much related to law. I think it'll definitely prepare me for law school.

Good luck!

XOXO,
Annie.
