In a big dillema!

Last semester I pledged for a sorority. I wasn't too thrilled about the sorority I pledged for. So I told them I did not want to initiate, however I felt pressured. I changed my mind, I wanted to initiate. I participated in the ceremony/ritual only a few minutes, and then I withdrawed. I did not agree to anything, nor swear/promised anything, I didn't sign anything, I did not take an oath, didn't pay the initiation fee, and the most important I do not know any of their secrets.

My last president told me that since I did not go through the whole initiation (just the part all of the sororities/fraternities go through) I can join another sorority under NPC. However, my current president told me a couple of days ago that I cannot join another
sorority under NPC.

Who's right?

What the....???

When they blindfold you, put you in a robe, and then some one knocks on the door, before you enter. Sounds familiar?

That was the furthest I made it into the initiation ritual and then I told them I did not want to go through the rest of the ritual.

No somethinstupid, it doesn't sound familiar. And I ask the question again, WHY IN THE WORLD DID THEY WANT TO INITIATE YOU IF YOU DIDN'T PAY THE INITIATION FEE!?!?!?

I think you may be confused about some of the deffinitions of the words you are using. I do not think you would be pressed into initiation (maybe pledging). If you didn't want to be in the organization and made it known to them you didn't want to be initiated they won't initiate you. If you then change your mind and then decide you do want to become an initiated member the organization will usually make you re-pledge and go through the entire pledge program again. It's supprising they would even take you back at all.

It's not that I want to rejoin that sorority, I want to join another one.

What matters is if the organization, let's call it Group A,considers you to be an initiated member. If they don't and you have relinquished all your pledge pins, letters, etc., you would be able to join another NPC group after waiting one calendar year.

If the group considers you a member, then you would have to work with your national office to see if they can have your membership status annulled (not revoked). If your membership is revoked, you would not be able to join another group. If you could 'annull' the membership (you are saying that you were never fully initiated), you would be available to pledge another NPC group in one calendar year.

Answer these questions:

Did you pay your initation fee? If yes,was the fee reimbursed?
Did you pay for and receive your membership badge?

I didn't pay for the initiation fee nor the badge. But, I did pay pledge fee and dues.

If Group A does not consider you to be a member AND you left the group in good standing, you would be eligible to pledge another NPC group, one year from now.

Two things. Number one, I paid the dues which was the same amount as the initiation fee and maybe they noted it as an initiation fee. Number two they are desperate for girls we only have 26 girls in our chapter, we are the smallest sorority on our campus, which is of 4500 students!

Most NPC sororities have a separate initiation fee that one has to pay prior to being initiated. In order to fulfill all initiation requirements, she has to make sure that all financial obligations have been met, and I can't think of any NPC sorority that will initiate a woman regardless if they were "desperate" or not. Monthly dues, new member fees, and initiation fees are 3 different things.

I also think it's funny how you still refer to yourself as being affiliated with them: "WE ONLY HAVE 26 GIRLS IN OUR CHAPTER, WE ARE THE SMALLEST SORORITY ON CAMPUS..."

If you didn't want to go through initiation with one NPC sorority, what makes you think you're material for another one? These are things to consider BEFORE initiation...and not the morning of.

Well I am! That's why I am on greek chat! I have not quit my sorority yet, but I will soon, before initiation again. I don't want anyone at my school to know anything about this yet.

If you didn't want to go through initiation with one NPC sorority, what makes you think you're material for another one? These are things to consider BEFORE initiation...and not the morning of.

So you're trying to say that all NPC sororities are the same! I don't think your fellow posters will be too happy to read that.

Don't even try to turn my fellow GreekChatters against me! It's pretty safe to say that they found your post suspicious from the start (GreekChatters, I think you know where this is going).

You are insane. If you REFUSED to go through initiation, then why would your GLO still want to have anything to do with you? And why in the world WOULD YOU STILL WANT TO BE AFFILIATED WITH THEM IF YOU'RE NOT PLANNING TO BE INITATED? I'm surprised that these girls haven't kicked your butt to the curb!

Your attitude toward your sorority is what sparked my question: What makes you think you're material for another one? Your wishy-washy attitude isn't going to get you anywhere.

I'm going to stamp a big FISH on your post!

Yep, I am insane because did not initiate for a sorority full of snobs that only calls me when they need money, never invite me to go out with them, and does not even speak to me when they see me!

It is not that I want to be affiliated with them, it's that I am still affiliated with them! I am still in that sorority, but I am planning on quitting. But, before I quit I want to know if I an join another one, if I can't, I want to stick around for the next pledge class to see if they are any better.

GreekChatters (not you, stupid), if you were in a GLO filled with "stuck up snobs", who "only call you when they need money", who "never invite you to go out with them", and who has members that "don't speak to you when they see you"...chances are you wouldn't want to be a part of that GLO, right?

And...chances are you wouldn't stick around to see if the new incoming pledge class was "any better", right?

carnation 04-08-2001 09:04 PM

Like a GLO, desperate or not, would let some wonk stick around who supposedly didn't pay her initiation dues and disses her sisters and backed out a few minutes into initiation!

Kristin was whining around about wanting to join another GLO, like they would want her with her track record. Hey yeah, let's take someone who published our secrets on the web and has a mother from hell and libeled half the chapter by full name on the internet!

Right. Bye, Verzys.

Well it's either GREEK or GEEK.
I rather stay in a sorority that I don't like that much than to be in no sorority at all!
