Great read lifesaver. What I don't understand is WHY neither side seems to get it.
You have a "pledge", you chose him because he posseses characteristics like dignity, intelligence, trustworthy...and then this very pledge allows these same traits to be broken and what...reassembled? It does NOT make sense! I can attest to the fact that hazing was a HUGE issue for many of the young men rushing with my son. It was a HUGE factor in the cuts some of the PNMs made. They talked about it in their groups and on their dorm floors. One chapter in particular was charming, had a close brotherhood, but when the boys "heard"...from SEVERAL sources...one of their practices, many dropped them like a hot potato! Are there that many highly successful chapters that endorse hazing? Or, are these chapters seeing their numbers dwindle over time? I wish someone would do a study on that. Maybe they could find out if it's become a poison pill to the chapters that continue this practice. I just can't help but wonder. |

For all kinds of reasons, hazing needs to become a distant memory. Its time and come and gone and, hopefully, won't return. JAM, I'm interested in how things turned out with "your boys." Either PM me or let us all know. |

You don't get around much do ya!!!:D :p The shortest version is-he is a new assoc. member of LXA. (Did I say that right?) In the rush forum see MY SOON is........ very long, very kind words! If you want the INSIDE SCOOP;) , which there ALWAYS IS, let me know! J/J lol I too hope that hazing will ONE day be something that ALL fraternity members will say with disgust, "Can you believe they actually DID THAT!" |

Well, the RUSH forum is a little off my beaten path. Too much drama going on there for my frail heart. I did finally find the information since there was a quote from it on the home page. Otherwise, I might still be in the dark. I'm sure that LXA Alum will be happy as well. Between he, Tom Earp and Lifesaver, I've gained a lot of insight and respect for their organization. Obviously anxious to hear the whole story. |

Seems like the two toughest things to get done -- at least in a fraternity -- are public relations and getting the bills paid in a timely basis. The second could be a whole different thread, though. Maybe both could, come to think of it. |
Q!

Well here at my school we actually have our OWN greek newspaper and it is awesome! it's called the Greek Chronicle, the website is www.greekchronicle.com. Our student paper, The Maneater doesn't evne hardly acknowledged that greek life exists here. We also have a nice Greek section in the MU Student News which another general news student paper, but the editor in chief is greek, she's a Zeta I think. I guess since my campus is well known for journalism we would have this, but yall should check out the greek chronicles website, it's great!!! |
I'm a journalist. Worked for NBC recently. Bottom line--good news doesn't sell. We tried an all-good news broadcast and the ratings crashed and burned.
People SAY they want good news, but they really don't. I now do public relations--maybe NPHC/NPC/IFC should get together and hire a PR firm to get some wonderful human interest stories out there. They could start with a story on GC |
