Wow, you said a mouthful (and I don't mean a people mouthful, I mean a whale mouthful).
Any time someone starts throwing up the "5 steps" like they're the Dead Sea Scrolls, their credibility kind of plummets in my eyes. Lots and lots of chapters of GLOs and other organizations have been doing that for DECADES - they just didn't write it down because it was second nature. The fact that anyone can't figure that concept out just kind of baffles me.
At my PWI, I never found the NPHC groups (who I'm pretty sure were all part of citywide chapters) to be "statistically irrelevant." Their members were visible as members of whichever group they were in, as well as active in the college community. If anything, we were impressed by the higher standards for academics and involvement that they set. She just sounds like another version of the people who think everyone who signs up for rush (NPC or NIC) should end up with a bid. |
