If you keep referring to them as "frats" your chances are going to be zero.

This isn't true everywhere. As a general rule, you're always safe calling them fraternities, but the word frat is acceptable in some campus cultures.

I know there's going to be a huge culture shock, and I think I'm excited for it mostly. I've been doing a lot of research on this website and others, and I think UA is the one for me. Awesome Ben Franklin quote too:)

Asking for reputations or membership selection policies of specific fraternities or chapters on GC = provocative, disruption causing and argument causing. (That's why we don't do it.)

Most likely, some groups at Alabama are going to be more receptive to you than others. But it isn't our place to say "XYZ only takes guys who live in Alabama or Mississippi" because we honestly don't know that about their membership selection practices.

OP, aren't you counting your chickens before they hatch as to being admitted to Alabama? These days, one cannot do that unless one's grandfather's name is etched upon a campus building.

We got lots of posts similar to yours from definite trolls, especially lately it seems. If you're not one, fine. But it's not a random assumption, and your attitude is reinforcing the assumption.

OP, you do realize the top tier (and mid tier) groups at UA and Ole Miss do a lot of their recruitment during summer parties, right? You being from California and having no relatives in the area means if you want to be greek at those schools, you'll probably have to settle for bottom tier chapters. If that's not appealing to you, consider other schools.

As Vito said earlier, everything else is gravy. You can make the best of your Greek experience no matter where you end up.
