Awesome story! Congrats to her and Tri Delta! Everything happens for a reason, huh?

KKGCaroline 03-15-2011 08:51 PM

Congrats to her and Tri-Delt!

I'm confused about what could be scary about a bedroom??

I had to assume this meant sleeping porch - which would probably freak out a freshman or two. :)

I assumed this meant they had a dorm system instead of individual bedrooms.

Great story, well written, loved the ending (and thank you for not dragging it out). I must admit I had a "heart catch" when I read about how she listened to the other PNMs and didn't rank her true first choice. Not everyone is as fortunate as she was. Please tell her congratulations!

Oh thank god she got her "second" choice. Silly girls listening to tent talk! Argh. So glad it turned out right for her.
Can we know what school this was?

Sorry for not getting back sooner...I've been a little distracted (see the "Sigma Kappa's fun times and complaints" thread).

I don't want to share the school for my cousin's privacy (this is her story after all, not mine). The other two groups she preffed were Chi Omega and Zeta Tau Alpha (either one I'm confident she would have done fine in).

As for the bedrooms, they weren't sleeping porches. I asked her about it (as well as looked at the chapter's website) and basically the rooms were small, triples, and despite the low ceilings had triple bunk beds. The space between the beds were really small and that's why she couldn't see herself living there.

I can understand this. I've seen a fraternity house where the rooms that went to freshmen were quads set up as follows:

- A triple bunk against one wall. The lowest level was pretty much on the floor, then there were two more tiers above that.

- The fourth bed was suspended from the ceiling at the same height as the highest tier of the triple bunk.

- Floor space (aside from the triple bunk) was occupied by desks.

Sit up from bed too fast and you'd hit your head. Heaven help you if you were a tall guy.

My husband told me that he rushed a fraternity where the freshman rooms didn't have windows. (He never joined a fraternity. We went to the same school, and at the time, all fraternity pledges moved into the house as soon as they signed.)

Anyway - congrats to your cousin on joining Tri Delta.

How in the hell do you get up to the top of a triple bunk bed?

Perhaps it is my current state but I'm feeling dizzy/nauseous just knowing this exists.

ElieM 05-07-2011 03:34 AM

you fly?

I've done the triple bunk thing while camping but I can't imagine doing that for a whole year

southbymidwest 05-07-2011 03:15 PM

I can imagine climbing up to the 3rd bunk, but getting down? I'm a klutz. In the middle of the night? Yeow! I'd be the one on the floor with the broken arm and concussion.
