My school is small (about 3500 undergrads) and there are 9 NPC sororities. Less than 200 girls go through spring recruitment, and usually fall recruitment is less than 100. Spring recruitment is larger than fall because then freshmen are allowed to go through. My chapter has 32 members right now (we're the 2nd smallest on campus). Here's how the last 3 pledge classes looked:
Fall 2000 (mine): 5 Spring 2001: 13 Fall 2001: 8 Even the larger chapters here don't get much more than that. 18 is the largest pledge class I've heard of here. I can't even imagine 50 or more! But personally, I like it the way it is here. I wouldn't want over 200 sisters because I like personally knowing all of mine. :) |

My school has around 9,000 which is a lot since last year we had like 5 or 6,000. There's like 80 girls in the biggest sorority i think. Maybe 85. Last year largest formal rush soroirty pledge class was like 30 or 35. OUr formal rush isn't till spring, so i'm sure that it will be bigger this year. Maybe we'll get another sorority. Who knows.
In the fraternity um..I have five pledge brothers. But IFC is starting a semi-formal rush. If you rush, you have to rush at least five fraternities. Our recruiment chair says he expects 15-20 guys coming out for us. That will unpresidented here. The largest here at my school i think was like 12 or so guys in a pledge class. |
At Penn State total is 85 (or around 85 I believe). Quota was 20 this semester. Numbers like 240-I can't even imagine!!!
|
Iowa campus total is 120
quota is usually 30-40 I couldn't imagine any smaller or bigger, i like having a lot of new people to get to know, but not an ungodly huge amount! |
I am a senior Alpha Phi at the University of Colorado. There are about 25,000 undergrads here but the greek system isnt very strong so about 600 girls go through in Fall and 100 in spring. There are 10 sororities.
This year quota was 55, all but 2 houses met that. We came in top with 58, plus we gave out 3 or 4 snap bids. Initiation went well and we initiated 50 so far....some of the girls couldnt make it, so we will initiate them later. Congratulations to all the wonderful houses out there....it looks like fall 01 rush went amazingly! |
Pledge Classes
I go to Cal Poly, SLO: 17,000 students, small greek population. Only about 300 girls went through Rush, quota was 35, we iniatiated 32 girls..not all houses met quota, one great house barely got 15, sad sad. Most of the houses are at 90 for house total.

The school I attended only had 6500 students. Greek life was less than 1%.
My sorority just initiated four awesome girls a couple of weeks ago. Our pledge classes used to be bigger but Greek Life just seems to be getting smaller. Here is a look at the past few years. Winter 1996-2 pledges Fall 1996-7 pledges Winter 1997-3 pledges Fall 1997-15 pledges Winter 1998-2 pledges Fall 1998-10 pledges Winter 1998-2 pledges Fall 1999-8 pledges Fall 2000-7 pledges Winter 2001-6 pledges Fall 2001-4 pledges Have a nice day :) |

Unless Panhellenic voted to raise Chapter Total to 230 in the last 2 years, CT is set at 150. However with larger pledge classes and higher member retention rates, almost all chapters are well above 150. They range from the 180s into the 200s.

Chapter total here is at 93, with almost all sororities WELL above that (I think Chi-O has something like 235 members, sheesh), and quota's somewhere in the 40s. They want to raise it so they can all do COB but that sort of screws my sorority over because we're way smaller than the rest and only do COB...most PNMs won't give us a chance as it is because we're not enormous and don't participate in formal rush, and if the others start doing COB even though they're ridiculously HUGE already, there's no one left for us. I love my sisters and wouldn't want to be in any other sorority, but it's frustrating.

Duke Blue, why don't you participate in formal rush?
|
We have 10 members...compared to the other sororities' average of WELL over 100. We simply don't have enough people.
Although I think it started out because the women in my sorority didn't like the fakeness of formal rush and wanted to get to know rushees in a more relaxed setting to see what each was REALLY like. |
At my school (MIT), we have:
5 sororities 5000 undergrads, about 40% of whom are women About 150 women rushing in any given fall Chapter total of 80 Quota between 28-31 4 sororities are consistently close to or over total after formal fall rush. The fifth (AEPhi) is much smaller - I think there are around 30 active sisters right now. Usually 3 of the 4 big sororities make quota and the 4th gets around 25 new members; and AEPhi gets between 7 and 12. AEPhi also generally gets 1 or 2 new members through informal spring rush. I simply can't get my head around the idea of a chapter total of 230 and new member classes almost as large as our chapter total. I deliberately chose not to join one of the "big 4" in part because I thought I would get lost. Imagine having 70 *pledge sisters*. Wow. |
U of Southern Cal's quota this past fall was 60, with houses being at or just over 200 total, there are 9 houses.
|
small school here, as well, but we have decent numbers. our ceiling for the sorority is 65. fall pick up was 14 this year, leaving us at 64. (we had a girl transfer.) our quotas in the spring are usually anywhere from 16-20.
