That's what I'm wondering  I haven't heard back from anyone still and no updates have been posted. I haven't seen any evidence to say that they did take in new members, but I'm still completely unsure.

Oh, dear, I hope this isn't one of those situation where panhellenic makes everyone hold parties, even the groups who have no space.

I really hope not. :(

Here's the Missouri post from this fall's rush thread.

UCM is down near the bottom - not all the chapters reported how many they got but hopefully this might help you a bit.

Just wanted to pop in and update whoever still reads this. Haven't heard bac from the first girl I messaged, I just sent an email to the president of sorority recruitment just asking if any groups were still recruiting. Just to see if it was over.

You can also contact the Greek Life Office. I know most had very few spots to fill. Some are probably still recruiting due to the weather.

Everyone has pretty much summed it up, but snaps to you for what was one of the most honest, tactful PNM posts I've seen. Just thought you should know that. :)

I just sent an email to the president of our greek life recruitment for sororities that was listed on my schools website. This is exactly what I sent her:

"Dear _____,

My names _____ and I'm freshman at the University of Central Missouri and I was just wondering if there were still any panhellenic chapters here that are still conducting their spring recruitment? Any information is appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Sincerely,

_______"

--I haven't heard anything back yet.

Just thought I'd update again for anyone still reading. A spur of the moment recruitment event for xyz was held last night. I of course attended and believe I left a great impression with the girls that I chatted with. Never receieved responses to the message and email though. I haven't heard anything about more events but last night gave me back a lot of the hope I lost. I'm crossing my fingers that hopefully soon I'll have a bunch of new sisters.

marencat 01-27-2011 08:50 PM

Another update, not such a happy one. I had been checking the xyz site to see if there were any new event updates. I stopped checking (i was checking like every 20 minutes) for about an hour to decorate my room with my roommate and they posted an event. Its a dinner out with the girls. I didn't see the event posting until a half hour after it had already started. I also don't have my car here so i couldn't try to catch up :( Needless to say I'm completely mortified and horribly anxious. I sent a message to one of the girls in xyz:

"Hi there, I'm interested in joining xyz. I just saw the announcement for dinner, and don't have a car to get up there. :( I just wanted to let someone know so that it isn't assumed I lost interest. I hope to make the next gathering and hope you all have fun tonight"

Hopefully that was the right thing to say. I don't know what else to do other then just wait and see what happens. I truly hope missing this event doesn't jeopardize my chances of joining. If I had seen the event in time I would have been there in a heartbeat. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

what you did was fine and all you can do is wait, which will be hard for you(and us too!). my fingers are crossed for you!

Thank you :) Every little bit of help is appreciated greatly.

Just to update and basically end this story/thread...I will most likely not be going greek this time around. I got an email from the head of the greek life on campus with the chapters that were still looking and how to contact them and let them know that I was interested in meeting the girls and possibly joining. I emailed each sorority and expressed interest in getting to know their chapter better, but haven't received any response from a single chapter. Needless to say I'm rather disappointed with this but you learn from all your experiences. I'm not sure whether I'll be rushing in the fall, as it will be my sophomore year. Just wanted to add a finish to this. Thank you so much to everyone here who offered advice and wishful thoughts, I appreciated all of them.

As forgetmenotivy said, most sororities had VERY few spots to fill and probably filled them with women that they already knew or that had a previous connection to the sorority. I wouldn't take it personally at all. Use this semester to get involved and get your name out on campus and meet people if you do decide to rush again next fall.
