Agree with DTD_Alum

As obnoxious/stupid as the tier thing is, for a house that is considered "tops" by many, and is very exclusive during rush, this will make you look incredibly stuck up.
For a house that is in the middle or not that well-respected on campus, it's just giving an opportunity for jerks/jealous people/idiots in general to make fun of you (not that you'd deserve it, people are just mean sometimes).

If you really want to use the TFM theme, I'd suggest a frocket tee with their little sailboat logo and your letters on the front, then with a quote on the back about the event followed by TSM. Something like "having the best formal ever. TSM" or "Having the best date nights since 1874. TSM."
(Okay, those actual quotes are lame, and prove why I am not the T-shirt person, but something clever along those lines would match the theme without making anyone look bad).

Just thought of a possible quote.

"Semi-formal. Fully classy. TSM" or "Semi formal. Totally classy. TSM."
:)

If you have to use the word "classy", you usually aren't.

Ditch that slogan, it's not clever or catchy. I agree that IF you are going to do a shirt like this, the best would be to have your letters on front and TSM on back.

However, and I know we hate talking about tiers on here, let's be real for a second. There is no way to make this look good. If you are a top tier chapter, a theme like this will make you look snobby and elitist, which is generally a stereotype that most "top" chapters are already saddled with and usually wish to avoid. If you are a bottom tier chapter, this could backfire and potentially make you look desperate and like you are trying too hard. I can see GDIs seeing the inherent snobbery and going, "Uhh, isn't that the nerdy chapter anyways? Why are they putting us down?"

I think a shirt without a slogan is fine and your best bet, not a bratty slogan and corresponding theme party.

It depends. On my campus, where no sorority or fraternity is generally speaking "frat" (according to TFM) it would be funny...for that reason. And our campus Greek life is certainly not unique in that respect. If it's a campus where some organizations take "frat" seriously....you're right.

I think "Gamma Phi Beta" on the front with simply "TSM" on the back would be ok (and funny IMO). But again the quotes could be seriously misinterpreted no matter what the campus atmosphere.

Oh, I was speaking specifically for slogans. The letters on front and TSM on the back (or TFM for a fraternity) is great, especially if its a neon tank. Obviously tongue in cheek. Once you throw a slogan into it, you are opening the floodgates wide for criticism and hateration.

Fully agree. Were I not familiar with the site and saw some of those quotes on a t-shirt I would make very unfavorable assumptions about the organization represented.

I actually agree with that; my thinking was that a slogan like that would be in the style of what is written on TFM, not them trying to prove to someone that they are classy.

Reagan/Bush '84 shirts should suffice.

No reason not to go whole-hog - Sperrys are semi-formal right?
